Two ways you could approach the situation - a.) Go for a good BUG to back up Dom and keep the defence as is; if the goaltending is dependable and strong, it could make up for the mistakes made by the defensive unit (most of the time, anyway!
) b.) Keep the goaltending tandem they have and make major improvements to the defence. It doesn't look like offensive production is going to be an issue with this club - but when it comes time for the playoffs, better teams are always going to find a way to exploit that weakness and make NB pay for it.
Questions I have right now:
1.) If NB begins the search for a good BUG, who is available (or who would you attempt to go after) that might be a good fit for NB? The Catch 22 I see in this situation is that the quality at the position may be slim; not too many veteran keepers may want to come into a situation where they're going to back up a 'tender that's only just started his second season in the league. Or do you go after younger goalie of high quality to back Dom up - just as Dom did with Vrbetic?
2.) A lot of veteran defenders have moved recently. That being said, is there anyone of interest still out there (for this board) that North Bay could hit a potential home run with...Would you go for a D similar to Ty Nelson, or would you go for size, sandpaper and shut down ability? For me, North Bay is kind of like the Toronto Maple Leafs - they play that "track meet" style of hockey that looks great in the regular season - but doesn't do as well as it could in the playoffs when things get more gritty and muddy. If I was in Adam Dennis' shoes, my #1 priority would be 1 (or 2!) 19-20 year old shut down defenders with good size that would make life miserable for other teams when crossing the NB blueline.
What do you all think?
