I actually think NB is better this year (with Petrov and Winslow in a month or replaced). The team is older and more balanced. The bottom six is as good as it gets imo. But BUG is a big question mark and without a top pairing LD, NB might not be top four going into the trade deadline.

Every team in the central is better, especially Niagara. It is now a really good division. Mississauga is probably the best team in the east up to the trade deadline. From there, the conference may be decided by who among the Petes, Colts, and Battalion added most effectively.
sorry ,but who is BUG

"It's an error. #75 was actually LD Alex Peters."

Thanks, Belair - I was wondering why Petrov's number changed from 43 to 75.

I think it is very risky to go with a 16 year old unproven BUG especially in a year where you are in contention for the eastern conference. Imo, NB needs a top pairing D-man (19 year old) and top six forward and preferably a playing-making center also needs to be a 19 year old (someone like Shane Wright if he gets sent back). That would allow Liam Arnsby to center the the third line which suits his strengths better. This would give NB three 19/20 year old's down the middle and make it very difficult to match up against. That said, this organization is very reluctant to move Arnsby to the third line center position. It's this stubbornness that prevents NB from taking that next step,

Brazeau played a game with Boston Bruins lastnight.
And?? any feedback? score? how did he look? It is probably his last kick at the pros he's going to be turning 25 during the season. Was it a PTO? or is he signed to an AHL contract? Fingers crossed for him to show well and earn a contract.

So who/what does it take to get Winterton out of Hamilton?

I like that. That'll depend on two things, First, how Hamilton starts the year and whether they are winning games. If they are middle of the pack or lower they should be sellers. Secondly, he's had serious shoulder injuries and had surgery and isn't back until Xmas so I've heard. But he's exactly what NB needs to add in their top six forward group. How about Fransico Acuri from Kingston...??

Left winger Justin Ertel returned Tuesday from the Dallas Stars, while forwards Liam Arnsby and Kyle Jackson, defenceman Ty Nelson and goaltender Dom DiVincentiis were to be at practice Thursday, general manager Adam Dennis said Wednesday.

Three players remained at NHL camps, in left winger Matvey Petrov with the Edmonton Oilers, right winger Kyle McDonald with the Ottawa Senators and defenceman Tnias Mathurin with the Detroit Red Wings.

“The information we’ve got is that he’s going to be back here,” Dennis said of Petrov, a Russian who was the first overall pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in 2020 and who scored 40 goals and earned 50 assists for 90 points in 63 games last season.

“That doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to be a long camp. They’ve signed him, so he’s a player that’s in their system right now. They’re going to take as long as they need, and we’ll be ready when and if he comes back.”

The Senators have injury issues with some prospects to start camp. Forwards Zack Ostapchuk, Viktor Lodin and Kyle MacDonald were all injured during the rookie tournament that wrapped up Monday in Buffalo. (Ottawa Sun)

Will he be back in time for this weekends games in the Soo??
If MP is back in time what do you think the lines will be?
My guess is Wakley, Jackson, Ertle
Petrov, Arnsby, Van Steensel
Tarasavich, Pods, Romani
Sima, Procyszyn McQueen-Spence

I would be very concerned with the backend. Nelson and Christopolous then it falls off big time. Gauvreau, Turley, Lukin and Kennedy isn't going to get you very far in this league. NB will be fortunate to split this weekend with that backend. The GM has to wake up here and get something done about that backend. I know Matherin will be back at some point and Winslow maybe by the end of October. But that will be 12 games into the season. I think the GM is taking a very big risk not going out and signing a 19 year old defenseman. I see Teddy Sawyer was traded to Owen Sound, NB should have been trying to add him...I really thought Adam Dennis was going to take this organization out of the dark ages but it doesn't appear he has the gumption to pull the trigger and go for it.

In the orange shirt picture tweeted today I dont see Petrov. Maybe he meets them in Soo? not sure.

I dont think we need to blow our wad early on. Like you said Mathurin back sooner than later then all of the sudden you have a decent top 4, a lot will hinge on how Winslow recovery goes. Sawyer would have been a nice pickup I agree. There will be moves made and I would rather make a great trade later than handcuff yourself by making just an OK knee jerk trade early on

The one line coach mentions and say he likes is; Podolioukh with Tarasevich and Procyszyn, so expect that for now.
It will definitely be tough without Winslow to start, but a 2nd & 3rd pick is a bit much for a 12 game replacement. If a #1 D becomes available to the battalion and Denis likes him, he will pull the trigger. He supposedly already made an attempt to acquire Hache.

I have no issue with what your saying. Makes perfect sense. I just think a Teddy Sawyer type of player is a nice add at a relatively low cost 2nd and 3rd round picks. That give you some security while you wait and see what is available at a later time. My philosophy is if there's a trade that makes you better and the cost isn't going to hurt the organization you try and make. Matherin Nelson and Winslow Sawyer would be a very nice top four. Then you add one more big strong physical type dman later and you are set with depth on the blueline. Last trade would be to add a top 6 six forward. Then I think this team is as good as any in the league.

I know and Hache declined the trade. I like his size but he's not the best puck mover and is a little slow going from the corner to the front of his net. I was ok with him declining that trade. I think Sawyer is a better player (better passer, better skater, plays with an edge) than Hache obviously, just my opinion. NB may never be this close again to ascending to the top of the ranks in the league and I would like to see an all or nothing approach to this year. The reality is, NBB will lose Winslow, Jackson, MacDonald, Ertle, Petrov and possibly Arbnsby next season. It would appear to me if you want to go for it you need to do it this year....???
