I wonder if McDonald earns a contract with Ottawa - what that would spell for North Bay?
It would create an opportunity for one of the younger guys. I am not suggesting a 2004 or 2005 could step in and score 40 goals to replace MacDonald's production but NB has some very good forward depth. Not to mention, that would free up an OA spot for NB to go out and get a top-end OA defenseman which would be more valuable to the teams overall success. I think you win championships when you have 3 OA's at the backend and the majority of the rest of the team is made up of 19 year old's.

Also, it's much harder to find top end defensemen to trade for than it is to get top-end forwards. If I am North Bay, I am targeting Ryan Winteron the 2003 forward in Hamilton - he recovering from shoulder surgery and won't be ready for game action until November or December but Hamilton won't be a top-tier team this year and Winterton won't be back in the O next year. Hamilton could recover some picks and NB gets a top end OHLer who 19.

There isn’t a cost effective way to replace MacDonald and/or Jackson imo. And, NB is not going with 3 OA D after investing picks #1, 38, 41, & 28 import, on D over two draft years that are now 18-19. More likely, it will be one OA D; and and a 19 yr old D nearer the deadline, or maybe Lukin+ for Hamilton’s Grushnikov

Anyone catch the game? Don’t expect much considering the core of players missing. Nice seeing young guys names on the scoreboard.

Yep, #4 was noticeably bad. #10, #21 and #6 looked good. #12, #15 and #29 skated well but didn’t generate much.

Attack fan here and was at the game. We were missing 4 of our top 6 fwds but your missing guys impacted Battalion more. I thought with the lineups dressed N.B played pretty good. Votary in our net had to make a # of pretty solid stops. You guys shouldn't be to upset just as us Attack fans shouldn't be to high it was an exhibition game and a chance for both sides to learn.

Ethan P on the scoreboard quite a bit through preseason, love that! Unfortunately have a lot of big guns returning from NHL camps and sometimes production is a direct result of opportunity

Therrien as well, a nice move in tight! Not something you see from rookies often. At least not ours.

Why do you say Jackson is on his way home? I was reading something off Seattle's twitter and no rookies are getting any exhibition games at home. They are dressing almost a full NHL lineup tonight.

Anybody know the situation with Winslow? When is he suppose to be back playing? Do we add an O/A on defense till he gets back? With injuries to 3-5 & 8 we can't be slow out of the gate this season.

Injuries to 3, 5, and 8? My understanding is Winslow is back in North Bay mid October. Maybe ready to play by end of October.

I think Justn Ertle, Ty Nelson and Kyle Jackson are heading back to NB tomorrow. Anyone else coming back before the season opener in the Soo?

Petrov hasn't gotten into a game yet. There's a good chance he'll be one of the first ones released over the next few days.

NB not mentioned in the OHL poll. I’m
a little shocked. As a STH since day 1, I’ve never been more excited about a regular season. Adam D will make some moves and this team will surprise everyone once again.

According to box score, Petrov played 15 Min+ in SEA last night. I recall GM Ken Holland stating several weeks ago he expected Matvey to attend Bakersfield Condors' training camp. If so, let's hope he performs just well enough there to convince EDM that he will be ready next season.

The polls show the OHL media believe Miss & Barrie are the two favoured teams in the central and eastern conference playoffs. If they showed results for the top three teams in a very good central division, NB would almost certainly be there. If NB were starting the season with Winslow and BUG that has played in the league, they may have shown better in the polls

Perhaps. I also feel the perception is - NB won't be nearly as good with the loss of Coe and Russell. Coe's speed is a loss and can't be replaced but Russell will be replaced by Ertle (might not score as many goals) but is a more complete player and is a far better passer and could end up with 75/85pts. The wildcard imo, is whether Petrov returns or not, That would be devastating to the lineup. I would expect he'll score 50 goals this year.

It's an error. #75 was actually LD Alex Peters.

I actually think NB is better this year (with Petrov and Winslow in a month or replaced). The team is older and more balanced. The bottom six is as good as it gets imo. But BUG is a big question mark and without a top pairing LD, NB might not be top four going into the trade deadline.

Every team in the central is better, especially Niagara. It is now a really good division. Mississauga is probably the best team in the east up to the trade deadline. From there, the conference may be decided by who among the Petes, Colts, and Battalion added most effectively.
