what is the matter with Mathurin?
Shoulder - still in Detroit getting it rehab'ed. I'll eat my words from a previous post...NBB won 2 out of 3 games on this road trip. Didn't see that coming.

3-1 on the road over one of best in league without Mathurin, Winslow and McDonald. Hmmmmm
Dom is a very good goalie
I gotta eat crow on this one. I didn't see them beating the Pete's. What will the NBB do with the additional OA spot that will be vacated by MacDonald? go after a dman or top six forward?

MacDonald doesn't have a pro contract yet. And it's still not impossible that Vrbetic goes back for his OA season. He's third in line in Laval.

Very early to be making decisions on the OAs.

K-Mac was in the B-Sens lineup last night vs. Marlies – 2 SOG, everything else was 0, presume he will play tomorrow vs. Rocket. From the alumni files, Mathew Santos was also playing for Belleville.

Just to name a couple. I haven't seen anything from Wakley or Michael Podoioukh and I think these guys are going to be counted on for a fair share of secondary scoring. Imo, the team doesn't look in sync yet. Not sure the coach has any idea how to match players. I've been saying this for a long time - Arnsby is a prototypical third line center and PKer he's not a playmaker and point producer. He's getting 23 minutes of ice per game (lots of that is on the PK) as the NBB are taking lots of bad penalties. That means, Jackson and Petrov are sitting for long stretches since they do not kill penalties. When your so called, two best players are sitting, it's not a good formula for success.

MacDonald back in the Bay today. Will be a welcome addition to the lineup. I'm hearing Mathurin is also back on the practice ice and could dress this week for the home opener.

Here's one for you. Would you trade 'captain for captain', Arnsby + Romani for Kitcheners Panelli?? Former Toronto Red Wing teammate of Ertel & Fantilli.

Notes from Wed. afternoon’s workout:

Avery Winslow (minus the flow) was in full gear and moving well. The last time I saw Tnias Mathurin on skates was at one of the very first training camp sessions when he was in red non-contact. Fast forward 6 weeks or so and that scene repeated itself today. The difference from then to now is he was fully mobile, looked match fit and took part in skating and shooting. It shouldn’t be too long before he is back in the lineup. Kyle McDonald was given a shootout opportunity by the B-Sens Sun., but did not score, thereby precipitating his return to NB.

Acknowledging the facility is undergoing conversion from curling venue to hockey arena, the almost 70 year old building looked shabby and tired. There were about a half dozen empty advertising slots on the boards, the boards themselves haven’t been painted in who knows how long, so the effect of countless black rubber marks is on full display for the first game of the season. I am very confident a magical transformation will occur overnight.

I have been waiting for a blizzard of publicity regarding the first home game of the season, particularly after the team began with 5 away games. So I finally heard a radio commercial today, Moose-FM while in the dentist’s office. And the sign on the front of the arena made mention of the event, among others. There you have it, maybe someone else has come across some “marketing”.

You’re telling me bare minimum effort, no promotions or incentives won’t fill the seats? Same old story as long Mike Griffin is team president

It has been almost 5 months since I trotted out my attendance obsession (Game 4, Eastern Final May 27, or the last home game), so I figured what better time than the first game of the new season (aka “the home opener”). As of earlier Thursday morning, unsold seats totalled a little over 1000, producing attendance of about 3200 (using 4200 or so as capacity). This stacks up very well vs. the last 4 pre-pandemic: 2021 1890 (COVID); 2019 2903; 2018 3129; 2017 2848; 2016 3080. I might do another update mid-late afternoon, and then will shelve this topic for a while.

With the obvious caveat that it’s still (very) early, some winning % numbers league wide so far are kind of interesting: the lowest in the East is .625, while the highest in the Mid-West is .400.

You're comparing the eastern conference to the mid-west division? You missed the west division or the rest of the western conference. Highest for the western conference is 875. Much different stat to compare. I'll show myself out.
