Notes from Wed. afternoon’s workout:
Avery Winslow (minus the flow) was in full gear and moving well. The last time I saw Tnias Mathurin on skates was at one of the very first training camp sessions when he was in red non-contact. Fast forward 6 weeks or so and that scene repeated itself today. The difference from then to now is he was fully mobile, looked match fit and took part in skating and shooting. It shouldn’t be too long before he is back in the lineup. Kyle McDonald was given a shootout opportunity by the B-Sens Sun., but did not score, thereby precipitating his return to NB.
Acknowledging the facility is undergoing conversion from curling venue to hockey arena, the almost 70 year old building looked shabby and tired. There were about a half dozen empty advertising slots on the boards, the boards themselves haven’t been painted in who knows how long, so the effect of countless black rubber marks is on full display for the first game of the season. I am very confident a magical transformation will occur overnight.
I have been waiting for a blizzard of publicity regarding the first home game of the season, particularly after the team began with 5 away games. So I finally heard a radio commercial today, Moose-FM while in the dentist’s office. And the sign on the front of the arena made mention of the event, among others. There you have it, maybe someone else has come across some “marketing”.
