The backup tight end blocking is all on Shanahan. That was a really dumb call. Josh Johnson fumbling a snap that hit him in the hands and being bad isn’t entirely on Shanahan. It’s amazing they even made it this far on QB 3. I think they should’ve dressed Garappolo as a 3rd QB today. Also, the refs were atrocious in this game.
Are either Woermer or Dwelley any better at Pass Protection than Kroft? If not then it’s bad roster construction to not have solid blocking TE on the roster. Cause then it all falls on Kittle to block.

It was still a one-possession game until his aggressive playcalling with a 4th string QB who doesn't even know the playbook. It's either too aggressive or too conservative for Shanahan too many times. And again, using Tyler Kroft to try to protect Purdy from Reddick leading to his injury? The team will need 4 starting QBs to get through a season with his playcalling.
Fair enough re: Kroft. Don’t know what he was thinking, but those types of blindside injuries during a throw happen all the time. And there was nothing Kyle could call to make up for how bad Johnson was. He couldn’t scramble or throw a decent ball, so all Philly had to do was load up to stop the run. Any chance of winning this game went down the drain after Brock got hurt.

And dumb penalties and bad officiating didn’t help either.

In retrospect it’s also kind of surprising that we don’t see more QBs suffer elbow and hand injuries more often give that defenders can’t land on QBs. It makes more sense to attack the arm to force a fumble, either chopping down on the elbow or hand.

Agree that they already had an extremely slim chance of winning once Purdy got hurt, but going to halftime only down by 7 is a lot different than going down by 14. No question that Johnson sucked. Worse than a HS quarterback, I have no idea what he even did these past 10 years in the league. But going two-minute no huddle offense with him is all on Shanahan.

And Purdy may not even get injured if he challenged that first call. Philly rushing to the line and calling a no-huddle offense after a 40 yard reception? As a coach, how do you not suspect something is up.

I agree 100% on the non-challenge. Very dumb, and if we’re following butterfly effect logic Brock wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

The play design is the biggest problem. Reddick needs to be blocked by a tackle there. Any tight end is gonna get worked on that play.

McGinchy ended up one on one with Cox on that play. Joseph got double teamed by the RG and C. Other 2 OL were one on one. So the eagles brought 5 on that play.

SF can always swap out the TE for an extra OT on that play.

Not much you can do without a QB. Great season, and thankfully basically the entire offense will be back next year with Purdy getting a full training camp. Looking forward to what they can do because the defense will take a step back without Demeco.

Well, there goes the Brady rumors.
Not a terrible idea to still go with Purdy and Lance, but would like to win one while still having the best LT in the league and while Bosa and Kittle are in their prime.

He does but he is absolutely capable of turning them around. He is pretty good at setting the tone for a team regardless of what position he's put in.
They have extra picks from The Watson deal. So they can turn that roster around in the next 2 seasons.

Brady retired so that puts an end to that thought of him joining SF next season.

I'm looking forward to watching the first part come to fruition.

All I can say about Brady is "good riddance"....

I don't think the 49ers were ever all that interested in going the TB route even if he didn't retire. I think they're pretty determined to have the job earned by Purdy or Lance.
