Hershiser was fine - 91 ERA+ in 202 innings. He was below average but hardly a weak spot on the team (really, the weak spot was that Hershiser, Mark Gardner, and Kirk Reuter were the three best starters on the team).

Johnson was pretty meh, but whatever. Carlton was legitimately bad.

Basically, this is a risk-free move that maybe works out, or maybe we release Verlander in May. Either way, whatever, we got another starter (remember, if you have eight starters, you have four starters).

Arizona promotes Danny Gonzales to defensive coordinator

Arizona has promoted Danny Gonzales to defensive coordinator and hired former player Joe Salave'a as associate head coach and defensive line coach, the school announced Thursday. Gonzales served as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator last season, Brent Brennan's first as head coach.
