I haven't followed MLB very closely since the...playoffs in 1995, but I take it the trade for Hernandez was well received.

Yeah it was well received albeit it's a rental. Think the fan base is more irritated they haven't brought in a short stop so far or spent as much money as anticipated.

Bummer that the Seahawks have stumbled a bit but their defensive line is trash and has been getting ran all over. Still a chance to make the play offs but some hard games coming up. Can still console ourselves with currently a 2nd overall pick from Denver, was almost first overall if Houston had held on for one last drive). Wilson got concussed so is likely out for a game or 2.

Some nice D-line talent will be there for the taking if PC/ JS can resist that urge to trade it back.
The only QB that should interest Seattle is Will Levis from Kentucky. Not thrilled about an undersized Young who has no outstanding physical gifts. Stroud, he seems like he should have been doing more with the talent he has. If Levis is taken by Houston I can see PC and JS trade back especially if they get a SF Lance type offer.

Carolina, Detroit with the Rams pick, Atlanta if they don’t see much from Ridder to close out the year, could be targets to trade up.

It's still key to get a stud player. Lately, the Seahawks rarely pick in the top 10 let alone top 5. There are 2 maybe 4 elite D-linemen and we should get 1. I can assume Chicago will take 1 of them unless they also trade down. Detroit if settled on Goff may go for one too but they could go QB.

If we end up with the 2nd pick, we can look to trade with Detroit, Atlanta, Indy or Carolina who all may be looking for a QB and all should be picking in top 10 still. Get their 1st & 2nd this year and 1st next year to move back.

This QB class was originally hyped to be good and deep, but I see it more as being deep and not as good as expected. Van Dyke of Miami and DJU of Clemson and probably a couple others have disappointed.
Young and Stroud, not sure I'm sold on them. If you combined Young's head and heart into Stroud's body, you'd have a surefire #1 pick. Separately, not sure on either of them. Levis, is a guy you need to reign in a bit but given he is with Kentucky in the SEC, not surprising that he has to push the ball to compensate for the talent disparity. Anthony Richardson of Florida is raw so not sure who's going to want to take that bet if they need a QB now. Has to be one with a veteran QB nearing the end. Hendon Hooker, with his ACL tear is out until around the mid way point of the season with no training camp or pre season reps. Maybe Seattle looks at one of them with their own first rounder if they are on the board in the late teens to early 20's.

QB classes are a wildcard every year. I mean, the early race for the top QBs in 2024 would be: Caleb Williams of USC, Drake Maye of UNC. Who knows how the likes of McCarthy of Michigan, Quinn Ewers of Texas, Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, etc. develop?

Seattle does need to go a couple of DL this draft with one being a DT. Need a LB and a C.

Trading down is definitely an option for them and thus gaining another 1st rounder for the 3rd consecutive draft would be a bonus to them. Like we have seen this season, the Rams, Browns, Saints, and Broncos have disappointed and they all dealt away their own first rounder.

Detroit has to make a call on Goff. I don't think he's a top 8 QB (assuming we break the 32 starters into 4 tiers of 8). Is he good enough to be in that second tier? You can win with a second tier guy so long as they are paid the correct amount to compensate for not being able to consistently put the team on their back should injuries occur. This is also the last of the Stafford picks from LA, so they won't have 2 first rounders next season. Campbell will be going into year 3, so with their O having the OL, WR, and RB in place, they need to decide on their QB moving forward. They could also opt for Richardson/Hooker with their own pick if they don't wish to trade up or use the Rams pick on one and have Goff start again next season. Goff is a $30.6 mill cap charge next season with $10 mill dead money if he is cut.

If the teams around the Seahawks with Denvers top 5 pick go QB then it gives the Seahawks leverage to trade down a couple of spots slightly and still land the defensive lineman they need. Would extend Geno for a couple of years and maybe grab a QB with their own 2nd round pick to develop. Fix the defensive line with some elite talent and maybe grab a QB next year when the QB class may be a bit better.

At this rate they also need another RB. I like Walker but we need someone alongside him. Penny can't stay healthy.

What QBs are you thinking at either the Hawks own first to their own second rounder?

Richardson due to him being Raw and Hooker with his acl year will be close to being available with the Hawks own first.

Not sure who you are thinking would be a potential good starter in round 2? Hall of BYU, Jurkovic from Boston College?

If the Hawks can trade down and add another first in 2024 and either a second in 2023 or 2024 that would set them up nicely to fill their holes.

On offence Seattle needs an IOL most likely at C. Need another RB as Dallas and Penny are free agents. So expect them to draft one or two on day 3 of the draft.
On D, they need DT and maybe another Edge, LB to compliment Brooks. Another CB on the outside and a S.

Good question re: QB in the 2nd. I haven't saw the underclassmen that declared yet. I was hoping Penix would declare as he likely drops to the 2nd due to injuries. I do trust the Seahawks to find the right QB. They'd considered Mahomes and Allen which pissed Wilson off.

I've heard Hooker could drop to round 3-5 due to the ACL. I'd take that chance and have him sit and learn/not rush him behind Geno.

The QB's that are supposed to go in the top 5 i'm not sold on though.

Agreed on a center as well with Seattle's own first rounder. I think they take a RB but lower in the draft (5th or 6th). It wouldn't shock me if they get Penny back on a minimal deal but you can't rely on him.

I think they'll try get a veteran LB in free agency. Not someone flashy but solid.

It might also be worth grabbing a WR. I've heard the WR draft is stacked and they should get value in the lower rounds. We are a little thin there outside of DK and Lockett and eventually we'll have to look at potential replacements for Lockett as he ages.

Hooker has enough game reps that he won’t fall past early round 2. With an acl tear he won’t get pre season or training camp reps thus making the 2023 season a write off for him basically. He’s a #3 QB that you need to keep on the 53 man roster once you activate him off IR sometime in October.

Pennix announced that he would return for another season which likely pushes Sam Huard into the transfer portal. Think after 2 seasons he’s going to look to start somewhere since he was a top 5 recruited QB in his class.

Not sure I love this draft enough to go for a QB which is why trading down and grabbing another first in 2024 might be the better move.

You can get a good solid player in rounds 2-3 so unless you are prepared to develop this post first round QB I’d spend the pick on a player who can help. Geno is enough of a stop gap for now that you don’t have to chase the QB spot.

If I look at TB who seemed poised to lose Brady in the off season, they drafted Kyle Trask at the end of round 2 in 2021 and there doesn’t appear any talk about him being tabbed as the successor to Brady in TB in 2023. So why did they take him especially if Leftwich is going to return as the OC who has been the OC for Trask time in TB so he should have a leg up on any competition for the starting job.

I’m a Levis fan as he has the tools and physical ability. Pro style college offense but on a weaker team in one of the 2 big conferences.

Did I do it right?

Full disclosure, I had a “Hawk Block” when I was a kid and fully f***ed my folks TV with it, but stopped caring when Largent retired… so that’s me. The end.

Hawks hold the 3rd pick now. Houston should draft first barring them winning 2 of their last 3 games.

Of the teams from 2-9 ( who have 3-5 wins so far) their remaining schedules are:

Chicago - Buffalo, Detroit, Minnesota
Denver - LA Rams, KC, LAC
LA Rams - Denver, LAC, Seattle
Arizona - TB, Atlanta, SF
Indy - LAC, NYG, Houston
Atlanta - Baltimore, Arizona, TB
Carolina - Detroit, TB, NO
NO - Cleveland, Philly, Carolina,

Not sure I see Chicago winning a game.
Denver best chance is vs rams
Rams best shot is vs Broncos
AZ best shot is falcons
Colts best shot vs Houston
Falcons best shot is AZ, maybe Balt if Jackson is out.
Carolina probably NO
NO probably Carolina

Seemed locked into a top 5 pick. See if they like a QB. I mean there ar exist a handful at best elite QBs in the nfl today. Allen, Mahomes and Burrow top the charts. An engaged Rodgers would be as well still. Brady showing his age finally. Wilson has fallen off the map. Jackson the outside passing game seems to be lacking still. Herbert needs to win and overcome chargering. Hurts, very impressive season. See how the playoffs unfold.

But are any of these QBs in the draft going to be better than Geno by year 3? If Geno’s salary demands are reasonable around $25 mill per that’s still doable for Seattle to field a good team around him. You replace the likes of Geno because someone you bring in will be a better or you replace Geno because his contract demands do not match his production which you hope to get at a cheaper rate.

Like the raiders being on the hook for $43 mill for Carr in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Not worth that cap hit if the top guys are around $50 mill. You aren’t getting 86% of Mahomes turning to Carr.

The colts got 3 extra seconds when they moved from 3 to 6 to let the jets take Darnold while they took Nelson at 6 plus Braden Smith OL, Turay DE who is now with SF, Ya-Sin CB with their second rounders that they got. Aside from Smith the other 2 didn’t last their rookie deals.

I don’t think Seattle can afford to drop more than 1 spot and still get either Carter or Williams the 2 top DL in the draft. Detroit has a good offense so they are going to target Defense.

AZ, think they need OL help. Indy needs QB.

Trading down, the main risk is Detroit unless they feel that the QB on the board will be better than Goff who is due $31 mill against the cap the next 2 seasons. This Seattle fans will be cheering on the rams this weekend.

Seahawks top pick needs to be Carter or Anderson. QB can be the other 1st or one of the 2nd round picks
Which QB would you target? Not sure I see one that is realistically going to be better than Geno in the next 3 seasons.

Levis has the best raw talent but he needs a good OC to coach out some bad habits similar to Allen. Stroud, his arm isn’t as good as Levis, and there is word that his leadership isn’t top notch but that was the same as Herbert coming out. Young is small. Richardson is raw so patience is required. Not sure how he develops sitting on the bench similar to Lance. Hooker is a RS year with his acl.

This game that Denver has vs Rams is huge for the draft as the loser will maintain a top 3/4 pick while the winner could vault up to 6.

IF we take DL with 1st pick then we're not getting one of the top QBs. Richardson is mocked top 5 or 2nd round. I like the idea of Hooker in the 2nd/3rd since he's sitting out a year anyway.

We also need IOL, LB & DE & maybe a WR with our other top picks

Personally, I'm of the mindset that unless there is a guy that you are going to be prepared to commit at least 2 years to starting, it's better to not take a QB in round 2.

If they don't love a guy this year, then they should consider waiting until next year. I mean, TB took Trask in 2021 at the end of the 2nd round, Minny took Mond at the top of the 3rd round and Houston took Mills at the top of the 3rd round. So far, only Mills has played and unfortunately for him, Houston is still bad and likely to take a QB at #1 in this draft, barring them winning 2 of their final 3 games. But, Mills getting around 25 NFL starts should allow him to stick around for many years as a backup QB, whereas Trask and Mond may be out of the league completely when their rookie deals expire. And Mond was cut by Minny after camp this year. I doubt TB rolls with Trask as he is still the 3rd string QB on TB's depth chart behind Gabbert.

Richardson is very raw as a 1 year college starter. I can't recall many or any 1 year starters in college that fared very well in the NFL. Haskins, Trubisky, Sanchez were 1 year college starters and left with eligibility remaining. Mac Jones, was a senior, and could have returned due to Covid, but otherwise, he would have finished his eligibility when he declared for the draft. Richardson reminds me a bit of Trey Lance. Raw talent, but how does sitting on the bench help him in 2023?

Seahawks in! Rodgers out. What a glorious Sunday! 😊
Broncos win so Seattle receives picks 5 and 36 as the final pieces of the Russell Wilson trade. Unfortunately, that likely takes them out of the top 2 defensive players in DT Carter from Georgia and Anderson the DE/OLB from Alabama barring a surprise pick from AZ (if they go CB or WR but with Watt retiring I’m thinking they go DL)

First time ever that the mariners and Seahawks made the play offs in the same year. UW football had a decent year too when they were wrote off at the start due to last year's disaster. Would have ended the PAC12 championship game if the division format was there. Sounders won the concacaf champions league albeit had a disappointing MLS season.

Hopefully the Kraken finish the deal and make the play offs to round it off

Now let's work on that NBA thing.
