looking good this season. next year is a big one for the kid. Does he take off and become a legit top #2 next to Pelech?
I say go for it. Noah already is 2nd in TOI to Pelech this year. This year was training wheels off, next year he has a full license to hit the freeway running.

makes too much sense to not put him on the top pair. He basically is taking it away from Pulock, good to see. Nice pick Lou and staff
A good question is who will Pulock play with next year. I hate to say it, Isles have 3 Right handed D men that can all play in the #1 pairing. Ideally, Mayfield with his contract is a better fit as a #2 pairing D man than Pulock at 6.125M per on the 2nd pairing. Perhaps an area of strength if one should move to strengthen the team elsewhere. I think Pulock can bounce back and earn the money he is making. But having a good left handed puck moving D man with some experience makes sense being paired with him. If we keep Mayfield, he should be paired with Salo next season on what looks like a very solid 3rd pairing.

I dont see any of Pulock, Pelech. Dobson being moved anytime soon. That is the core of the defense. Mayfield is a bit older than those 3 and is due for a big raise. If any are being traded its Mayfield.

Yeah if only Mayfield was going to be paid 1.45M per with Dobson himself getting a raise with his RFA contract coming up. I think the Isles would be wise to lock up Dobson for 8 years in his next contract. And this is the reason why I think it will be tough to keep them all. For this to happen you will likely have Dobson and Pulock eating up approximately 12M and when you add this to Pelech, this will be close to 18M for 3 D men. I am not great at math but something doesn't add up here if you plan on keeping all 4 long term.

If you can lockup Dobson for 8 years you do it. Could potentiall sign him for 5-6 per year and be our #1.

I like Mayfield alot, but at this point i dont think we can afford the 4-5 per year that he will rightfully ask for.

I imagine Dobson and his agent would be wiser to do a bridge and look to cash in when the cap starts going up again and he's really established himself.

I love Mayfield. One of the reasons I love him is because he only makes $1.5MM. Not sure I still love him at $3MM+

Or deal from strength and get a quality LHD PMD in trade for Pulock and retain Mayfield for RHD2?
Bode Wilde is still considered an NHL quality prospect.
The idea that we will be a "win now" team next year does not appear to be a reasonable expectation with the numerous changes we will need to make so sorting out a steady quality defense should be job#1.

Bingo. Dobson's upside is so high and he still has so much to learn. If he rounds out his game he could be paid like a first-pairing defenseman whereas right now no way he gets anywhere near that money. He should take a "Beauvillier" bridge deal, but unlike Beau hopefully Dobson keeps developing and reaches his full potential on a nightly basis.

And as for Mayfield...Amen.

Do the local versions of pizza and bagels suck as much as I imagine?

I recall visiting a high school buddy in LA years ago who was a dyed in the wool New Yorker. He lost his shit when the pizza he ordered came back with cheddar cheese.

It's trial and error on the pizza. Eventually you'll find some ny/nj guys who moved here and opened up stores

Depends where you are for bagels. Some cities have good shops some don't. If you happen to be moving to Surfside Beach near Myrtle, I've got the place!

Dobson is definitely on his way of being a star in this league. I still think if we can get Wilde in this lineup next year you will see we have another really good solid Dman. Not the star Dobson is and will be but very very solid.

I always liked Wilde. I was ecstatic that he fell to us. I thought he would be long gone. But I didn't think Dobson and Walstrom would be there either. The knock on him, from what I've read is the old: "has the tools but has no tool box". I'm hoping that is a mistake. Since all the vaccine prohibitions are disappearing, I was hoping that he could play the rest of the season at Bridgeport.
