Noah Dobson is a stud. He is still questionable in the defensive end against top tier talent but so is Adam Fox and everyone goes crazy over him. Dobson has the height that I want in my defense and he will fill out more as time passes I believe.
He is slowly, steadily and surely improving in that area, and now that you mention it, it occurs to me that maybe Chara has looked spotty back there at times because he's been doing a job and a half back there while he kid learns the ropes

Any coincidence that Chara has looked really good lately coupled with dobber's improvement and the fact that he doesn't have to cover for him nearly as much??

I LOVE the way Chara was knocking guys on their asses during the last couple of minutes today.

As Dobson continues his ascension into a beast, I can't stop chuckling inside when I see the players selected before him demonstrating they aren't in Noah's league. #1RHD's are so crazy valuable, Dobson should have been a top-5 in 2018. Dahlin is looking much better these days, Svechnikov is an impressive player, Hughes is Leetch 2.0, I think Dobson slots at #4 and I prefer him to Hughes (I dislike these type of offensive smurfs).

#3 Kotkaniemi - major reach due to position.
#4 Tkachuk - good player, but not the Dobber.
#5 Hayton - massive reach due to position.
#6 Zadina - not looking so hot.
#7 Hughes - impressive offensive d-man, I have a clear aversion to swift offensive mighty mites that are a liability defensively.
#8 Boqvist - again, offensive mighty mite with defensive questions.
#9 Kravstov - LOL LOL LOL
#10 Bouchard - Thank you Oilers for being the Oilers on this one. Shattenkirk 2.0 with compete, mobility issues that is a defensive liability.
#11 Wally - Dobber should have been picked before Wally, but whatever... we still got Dobber.

It was a perfect storm to get a 6'4 RHD in the mold of Pietrangelo 2.0 at #12 overall. Thanks again to the schmucks who passed on him!

Dobson was such an interesting guy to fall. Wahlstrom on the other end I still think will be fine. Listening to him speak the other night about using his size more I believe he is becoming more of a power forward than we thought. Power forwards are similar to the defensemen where they take a tad longer to develop.

glad you mentioned that. he has really given out a lot of hits seemingly since he's been paired with barzal. maybe he's trying to prove to everyone that he's willing to be the "enforcer" of that line??

the kid can get the puck to the net from any angle and that can not be taught. i too think he'll be fine and given consistent ice time can be an elite goal scorer

Anybody old to enough to remember Rick Vaive - he's a guy I think of when trying to come up with comps for Wahlstrom. He was kind of a hybrid of a sniper and a power forward. Not quite either one, but a really good player.

Guy had over 400 career goals. Scored 50 three years in a row. Had over 200 penalty minutes one year too

I'll take that right now for Wally ( ok sure, with much less time in the box! :)

I agree withyou on #3, #5, #6, #8, #9, and #11... But Quinn Hughes is 21, improving defensively, and has the kind of creativity + vision that you just cannot teach. He's gotten exposed more defensively than Dobson so far bc he hasn't nearly been as sheltered. I would pick him ahead of Dobson - then and now. As for Bouchard - I don't agree that he has mobility issues. I don't think he's as good as Dobson, I defnitely preferred Dobson at the time and now, but it wasn't ridiculous to prefer him at the time. There were reasonable questions about Dobon's offensive upside at the time. I think Tkachuk was a good pick because he was such a safe projection. Hard to argue with knowing exactly what you're getting.

Good comparison. I'd be thrilled if Wally became 75% of what Vaive was. I recall him as a rugged big forward with a quick release, big shot.

I am a RHD fetishist. I consider that position to be the rarest and most valuable asset in the NHL aside from a legitimate #1C, I also give a little bit of a bonus for a RH center as well. It's kind of like a LHP in Baseball, it's just a smaller pool of available players of that type so the laws of supply and demand is a major factor. I have been lusting for a player like Dobson since I wanted Pietrangelo in 2008, that's a big reason why I am such a massive Dobson booster.

Hughes is a special talent, but I have a personal bias against his type of player. I just prefer the big RHD tower of power being the alpha of my defense. As for Tkachuk, I consider LW the least valuable position because that position is so plentiful so I take the RHD. I like Tkachuk, but he isn't special enough to make up for the positional value in my eyes.

As for Bouchard, he does have mobility issues. He is so stiff, his 4-way mobility is average and there isn't much burst in his stride. He is an incredibly talented passer (especially the outlet pass), but he better be because he can't skate the puck out of danger. The thing that bothers me most is his lack of compete. People will say it's "cerebral", I call it "bullshit". He has a low motor and his seemingly inability to sense danger, not good. I don't think he's close to the player Dobson is and will be. Like I mentioned earlier, it's Pietrangelo 2.0 to Shattenkirk 2.0. I take Petro every day and twice on Sunday.

Haha. The tweet could be more specific, Leddy did it several years ago.
Latest in a line of top NYI backliners!

Makes me reminisce to the year Potvin won his 3rd Norris. Freaking guy had 101 pts in 73 games. Was a plus 71 on the season.

Orr had over 100 pts SIX straight seasons. Had a plus 124 one year

Dobson is the best d-man prospect/young player since the days of Bryan Berard, Eric Brewer, Kenny Jonsson, Scott LaChance. I think Dobson is better at this young stage than all of them.

Leddy was on pace for 45 points last season(31 points in 56 games).

40 points isn’t really all that impressive from your powerplay quarterback. There’s still 21 defenseman ahead of him in points.

watching #8 last night a little closer, I noticed a kid becoming a man. He made some "f" it plays and decided to dictate rushes, pinches and doing whatever it took to get that tying goal. He is using his 6'3 frame to create leverages, and it's quite something to see. Kid is going to be good for a while. I do hope he has the killer attitude to be the man because he has the chance to be a game breaker from the back end. Nice pick Lou and co!
