Leddy was on pace for 45 points last season(31 points in 56 games).

40 points isn’t really all that impressive from your powerplay quarterback. There’s still 21 defenseman ahead of him in points.
From a 22 year old defenseman who plays on a team that was horrible offensively the first half 40 points is a terrific milestone and achievement. He’s also getting a lot better defensively.

watching #8 last night a little closer, I noticed a kid becoming a man. He made some "f" it plays and decided to dictate rushes, pinches and doing whatever it took to get that tying goal. He is using his 6'3 frame to create leverages, and it's quite something to see. Kid is going to be good for a while. I do hope he has the killer attitude to be the man because he has the chance to be a game breaker from the back end. Nice pick Lou and co!

Dobson is a very mild mannered kid and soft spoken, but the kid certainly looks like he has that killer instinct. He sensed he needed to take over and he did his best to get it done. I like that he wasn't afraid to take charge.

Towards the end of this video, the person outlines a sequence where Dobson took over and showed that killer instinct (around the 17:30 mark)

I said when they drafted him Dobson reminded me of Kenny Jonson. I don’t know if Dobson will be as good as Kenny defensively but offense I think Dobson will be better.

Let’s hope Dobsons agent does not see this

Reading through that thread is pretty funny, so many brutal takes.

I'll cut @seafoam some slack because Dobson was dogshit to start the season.

I'm tempted to make a new poll, but I enjoy seeing some Oiler fans trying way too hard to justify taking Bouchard over Dobson. The non-homers know they f***ed that up...

There is zero doubt in my mind Dobson would get worked defensively in the playoffs just watching him play. That being said I am not sure how many 22 year old top four defenseman would not get worked come playoff time. The dude is legit and at the absolute worst will be a second pairing defenseman while also being a PP QB. It is getting more and more likely he will be a top pairing guy though.

I think it’s pretty clear that we need to trade him while his value is high. Probably get some really cool picks for him that might, one day, be something. Maybe even a top pairing RHD!!!

To be fair, at the time of that post Bouchard was better than Dobson. I think shortly after he was healthy scratched and then Pulock went down and the rest is history…

he came back from that scratch and was literally a different player within a handful of games. it was like a "mission accomplished" type of thing

the good news is that a lot of these teams are using these last games as playoff "tuneups" especially since the isles play that grinding playoff style hockey. dobson will gain experience here the rest of the way and have all of next season to get "playoff ready"

I understand your reasoning, but Bouchard has never been better than Dobson. More productive early in the year leeching points off McJesus and Draisaitl, but not better. Bouchard is the same player he was in the OHL, offensively talented and a trainwreck defensively. There has been little to no development in his game, he still has no compete with that laissez-faire demeanor in his own zone.

Dobson can do things that Bouchard will never be able to do like flying down the ice and leading the rush or competently defend. Bouchard is a PP specialist and 2nd pairing if he can improve in his own end, Shattenkirk 2.0.

Dobson is one of the brighter spots of the season. His offensive game has grown exponentially, though his defense still needs work. He has coverage lapses, still is soft in the corners/net, and doesn’t use his lanky reach enough. I expect him to clean most of this up by 24/25.

With that said, I’m not sure I see a shutdown defender; more a smooth, two-way that plays strong enough D and generates offense.

He does have lapses and sometimes his passes are not crisp but that seems to be a team wide malady this season. I think he's improving in the corners. Working with Chara and Greene has helped him learn how to play NHL defense. He's moving in the right direction very satisfactorily

Yep, I have no qualms. I may not see the elite, high-end potential that others do, but that in no way shape or form means I’m diminishing him. It’s refreshing to (seemingly) have a highly-touted prospect develop and satisfy such a high draft position.

Yeah man. I think wahlstrom will pan out nicely too and that draft will look good as we go along
