I'd like to thank the Rags and Oilers yet once again for passing on Dobson. Kind of like the Barzal scenario where Rag fans were convinced they were going to get that #16 overall pick in a trade for their goalie (who I can't even remember who it was right now) to select Barzal. Thanks TWICE to both teams for our #1C and future #1RHD.

Real damn good.

Pushed Ryan Pulock to #2 RD on the depth chart IMO. And that's tough to do as Pulock is a good player as well.

I really wanna see Pelech-Dobson together.

If Lamoriello can't land a top four LHD defensemen between now and next season, Salo-Pulock might be the best second pairing the team can put together.

Also Noah is literally 3rd on the team in points and has many goals as Beauvillier and two less than Wahlstrom. He is the ying to Pelech's yang and should be on the top pair next season.

I see the posts about signing Lindholm, and I can honestly say I wouldn't care one bit who get's paired with whom on the top four. As long as LHS are on the Left and RHS are on the right.

I think having Seidenberg helped Mayfield, Pulock, and Pelech. I thought he may have stayed with the team one year after he stopped playing as well. I hope someone is there to mentor Dobson. He is emerging and if the only good thing to happen the rest of the way is he gets some help cleaning up the D zone work that will be fine.

When Islanders had a high pick they generally seemed to make a "consensus pick". Nino was the top forward available in 2010, Strome while not the top player left in 2011 was considered in a group of 4 players to be selected 5(I would argue he was third behind Hamilton and Couturier), Reinhart was the Best defenseman/2nd Best Player(Forsburg) in 2012, Dal Colle was the best player left in 2014.

I do not remember some of these the same as you. I do not remember Reinhart being the best defenseman left on the board. Guys like Trouba, Reilly, and Dumba were ranked ahead of Reinhart. While I will give you Nino I always felt that year Snow should have drafted Fowler who was never expected to fall that far. I still believe Snow wanted Johansen that year and did not expect him to get scooped.

MDC was certainly the consensus pick. Strome in my opinion was even the consensus pick as well. It is painful to look back at these players thinking how NONE of them turned out for the Islanders.

I am only quoting your post to add on some additional info, not that I necessarily disagree with you. Tavares leaving certainly hurt the franchise, but whiffing on all of these picks is what TRULY hurt the franchise. This is why I cringe when I see people say how Snow left a good team for Lou. Snow left a battered down team for Lou who had zero direction, lost their franchise player, and due to Lou being a true leader and bringing in Trotz (along with some key acquisitions) did this team have the three year run it just did.

Does Lou have his problems? Absolutely. Should Snow even be allowed to be a waiter to Lou? No because I would not want his stink rubbing off on Lou in any sort of ways.

Two unsolicited random comments from HFLAK GDT from last night:

"I’ve never seen Dobson before, but wow that kid has a bright future."

"Can we trade for Dobson? He’s looked pretty dynamic despite the Islanders laying an egg in this one. I know he’s their untouchable, just impressed."

From the highlights (dozing on and off), the kid was flying out there after a rough start. He'll be in Norris contention soon if he keeps progressing next season.

Dobson has been the lone bright spot on this disappointing season. Its great to see his development. Turning into an allstar defeseman, very much in the mold of Pietrangelo. Love watching this kid play.
I think Nelson and Pelican have been bright spots as well but certainly dobber shining brightest

Dobson is 2 years younger than Adam Fox. We're starting to see him do things we saw Fox starting to do 2 years ago.
Yeah, I don’t see it. Fox was elite with and without the puck since he entered the league. Dobson is a big question mark without the puck on his stick.

Glad he has broken out this season. Most are not surprised of this. Like I joked on draft night when he was picked. Isles made a mistake, he should have been picked at #11 and not #12. Isles had both picks, but to me he was always head and shoulders the better pick. Wally will have to prove me wrong there. ;)
