Unless they fall asleep...like Sweeney giving Hamilton.

it sucks but Larsson is only 23 and his analytics are outstanding on a sub par devils team. oilers had to take a chance. look at it this way. they missed the playoffs 10 years in a row. that formula wasn't working. gut the team. they have oodles of prospects.

New Jersey won this trade. Oilers could have got more for Hall.

I don't know if that's true. But that's kind of what all the gloating is about...One fanbase was LOLing all over the place at "low ball" offers that were better than this. They should have got more for Hall for sure, but if there was nothing out there what are you going to do? Gotta get the ship headed in another direction.

Wild definitely "lost" the Burns trade considering Coyle is the only asset still with us, but the trade let us move in another direction, altered our draft picks, and we're a better team.

sucks but if at the end of the day you're closer to the cup than you were even if you're taking a loss in a one for one trade it's worth it.

Not for those trying to SPITE the Oilers and their fans while hiding behind the internet using fake names its not.

I dont know if you know how many Devils fans blew me right off the main boards when I tried to trade RNH for Larsson. Admittingly, Hall is currently >> RNH but the value isnt that far off.

Now , Hall is a GOD and Larsson is chopped liver. Where was this logic in all the time before the trade happened?

You must have hit your head and gotten amnesia because there were plenty of Oiler fans talking up Hall and his value while and degrading any comparable defenseman with Larsson included.

It's ok though, stay in denial.

And that's fine, but the deal is still bad from Edmonton. No one is saying Larsson is ****. Larsson just isn't enough to deal an established elite winger for. Even with Hall's injuries, he's had 2 point per game seasons, one of 80 points in Edmonton of all places and this was prior to McDavid and even Draisaitl.

This is just not a good deal for Edmonton. They're banking on Larsson becoming a top pairing guy. He's not that as of yet. Just because he plays top pairing minutes in Jersey doesn't mean he's a legit top pairing defender on a team with a better defense. That's like putting a 4th liner in a 1st line role, having him put up 40 or so points and calling him a 1st liner. It doesn't fit.

I'm not saying it's a good trade, but when people start saying he's going to be closer to Mark Fayne next season in EDM fans minds, that's ludicrous.

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - Davidson
Nurse - Fayne/Reinhart

We finally have 4 legit top 4 dmen, as well as 2 more potential top 4 guys on the bottom pairing

Thanks. I wasn't sure I'd Davidson played the right side.

Edm is actually a more balanced team now. They won't have issues scoring goals, but were always bad at preventing them. Larsson instantly makes the defensive core better. With the addition of Pulji edm had the ability to move wingers. Yeah, hall is a top notch player; but to make the playoffs w/ Larsson vs. Finishing bottom 5 with hall, I'll take the playoffs. NJ gets their guy and still have a good defence. Let's wait till April until we decide how good/bad this deal is foe either team.

Yeah, Jersey did rip off Edmonton. The only way Jersey wins is that Larsson develops and Hall gets injured constantly and his career falls apart due to injuries.

Taylor Hall is a PROVEN FRANCHISE #1 winger. Larsson is a young top-4 defender with potential. The guy hasn't show ANY sign of progress to signify that he was going to be a legitimate #1 defender, nevermind a FRANCHISE defender.

Even the analysts are saying Edmonton is gambling here. This is a terrible and unnecessary deal on Edmonton's part.

Just take Hall and be happy with him. You guys won the trade by a landslide. Stop trying to justify Larsson as something more than he really is at this point.

If he becomes that, then good for him. As of right now, he's not.

The bolded does not make much sense to me. It seems obvious that the Oilers were going to have to overpay for a RHD and needed one badly. So how is this move unnecessary?

Gotta say I told you so to some of the Oilers fans who thought they could get a top 4 dman on the cheap. When I said it would take one of Hall or Drai to make any team pull the trigger I got lambasted by Oilers fans.
We told you this is what it would take.

That doesn't look good at all.

That's still a lottery team defence, and now they'll have less goals for, but a better goal differential. yipee.

If you take the time and get the situation, then you know they had little choice.

They have tried your method of not trading their best players and sitting on a surplus. It hasn't worked out.

The Oilers had to make a trade. They knew that, their fans knew that, and all the other GMs knew that. They had no leverage whatsoever. Everyone was going to try to rip them off because they knew the Oilers needed to make a trade and break up a losing core.

Their choices were: A) make a losing trade that helps deal with their main problems or B) make no trade, go into the following season with basically the same defense and the same core players and hope for a trade to pop up eventually.

B was unacceptable for them. So they had to make a trade. If this was the best trade they could make....it just shows how cornered they were. Sometimes you have to lose a trade to win. The Oilers desperately needed a better defense and to move guys out that had been losing there for years. This does that.
But if you've got to make a trade, why not try to trade Nail Yakupov and a good set of picks, or even RNH, for Larsson, or a good top 4 D man? Don't trade your best left winger, and in my opinion, a top 5 LW in the entire league, who would do AMAZING if given McDavid for a full season, for that return.

Edmonton should have gone after Subban not Larsson. A 3 way trade would have been good.
Hall to Nsh
Weber to MTL
Subban to Edm

Jim benning is looking like a genius right now. 1st line winger for a top 4 dman that doesent provide much offence, doesent provide much physical presence, not overall a very tough guy. What a terrible trade for Edmonton by gosh.

Defenseman often take more time to develop, particularly their offensive game. And given the dearth of talent in NJ it is unsurprising that Larsson has yet to produce offensively.

I agree that Hall is the better player and has more value. I am surprised they couldn't get more for him. But Edmonton addressed a glaring need and got a player that should help them for years to come.

Edm gave up their most valuable player(except Mcjesus) and got a RH second pair defensemen in return. Now they need the #1 or #2 which Hall++ would most likely be the best way for them to get that.
Do anyone actually believe that Edm can contend with Klefbom-Larsson as the top pair?
Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-?
Nurse-?

Larsson should be on the second pair. They dont have a top pair defensemen and gave up a top 3 LW

you may be suffering under the same delusion many Oiler fans were about the Value of Oiler players not named McDavid, Hall, or Draisaitl. Yak+RNH doesn't equal Hall. You have to think if they made this trade they tried to trade RNH + for Larsson first and it was a no go.

I pray to god the Wild don't actually trade Brodin or Dumba for RNH now that this has happened.

Hall is a one dimensional winger with attitude issues .

Am I the only Devils fan not happy?

by game 20 you will be on the Hall bandwagon. He didn't have attitude issues. He was one of the few who hated losing and wasn't satisfied with just getting the paycheck.

He will be your best player for the next 5-10 years

Naw I think everyone here, sans Oilers fans, knew it would have to be an overpayment if you want dmen. Most oilers fans would say just don't do the trade then...but Chia bite down and did it
