Larsson is bigger, younger, better on defense and a true top 2 D with #1 upside. Hamonic doesnt have anywhere near his upside and is a #3 or #4 AT BEST. Hamonic and Chris Tanev are the most overrated players on these boards.

Over a 3 year period Larsson has the least amount of offensive zone starts yet is #8 in FA60. He also has the 3rd best GA60 over the last three years. This guy is vlasic. And 23. Oilers got better. That's incredible.

Seguin to Dallas ?... EDM didn't get great value for Hall but they were not in a position of power, in reality they were actually in the worst position possible. They knew they were going to get low-balled BUT Larsson is a very good defender. Makes sense to move Hall. Obvious surplus of forwards and with Hall gone seems like McDavid established himself as the clear leader/face of the team (if he already wasn't) I like the trade for both sides. NJ has a lot of D prospects but are weak up front, EDM has the opposite problem. Good hockey deal. Sure you would like more for a #1 pick and top line winger but Larsson is a very good hockey player and easily a top pairing defenceman. Good on Chia getting help on the back end.

Erikson was a better return the Larsson is back when the seguin trade happened. Mark my words this time next year Larsson is much closer to a mark fayne on our team then an elite dman. I'm not saying he is mark fayne, just he's a number 4 defensive dman, not what you trade your superstar forward for.

Klefbom and sekera are both better dman than him on our team right now.

Do they realize Hamonic had 3 concussion and another would like end his career . I take Larsson all day long over Hamonic .

Apparently I'm the minority but I think this is a good deal for both teams. Right now the Devils get a better player but I still believe in Larsson's upside. I think the Oilers are very happy with this in a few years from now.

Taylor Hall is a very good straight line, drive the net player but he'll just get in McDavids way with his lack of hockey sense. Assuming this opens the door for Lucic, I think the Oilers get better.

I never liked the idea of moving either of the centres, it had to be Eberle or Hall for me.

lol not even close. And Eriksson was awful, that is easily one of the worst trades in the history of the game. He's far better than Sekera, and possibly Klefbom. I know oilers fans are really high on Klef, but from what i've seen i put Larsson ahead of him quite easily.

Don't lie to yourself man. You won the trade big time and improved your team, just be happy.

I am, but damn is Lars getting unfairly bashed here.

All anybody is looking at points. He played on, by far, the worst offensive team in the league. But also one the best defensive teams in the league. And he played a MAJOR part in that. His skating will always hold him back from being elite. That's why he will never be a number 1. But he is exactly the kind of player you need to win.

Agreed. So many people on these boards are misinformed. Hall is an overpay, but I would rather trade Hall for Larsson than one year of Shatty and 3 years of Hamonic as my top pairing defensemen. Jason Demers is slightly worse if not the same as Hamonic.

Im not a fan of either team but have watched NJ a good amount this season(im a NYR fan). NJ won this trade by alot. Hall is top 3 LW in the NHL. Larsson isnt anything more than a #3 at best. I would rate him as a very good #4. Giving up one of the best offensive players in the league for him is stupid on so many levels. Gonna hate playing against NJ and see Hall destroy Girardi....

Larsson can play top 2 minutes. Maybe he shouldn't be just yet but he can. The potential is absolutely there though to be an excellent #2.
