I find it hilarious how bad EDM fans took this trade.

Sure, you're not aware of how good Larsson actually is, but even if you are, i admit something should've been added from the NJD side.

But even so, is this really the time to start crying about stuff like that ? For years that team sucked and fans were yelling for trades to boost the defense. Now that you finally got a shiny piece in D the only thing people care about is how they should've got more.

Larsson is 23, established himself as a 20+ min eater, brings defensive stability and signed for 5 more years on a great contract (saves almost 2M in cap space, if everything goes as planned for the Oilers in a few years that should come in handy). Not to mention the Oilers didn't have a single top 4 RH guy in their lineup.

Even if they probably should've got a bit more for Hall, if i was an EDM fan i'd just be excited about all the changes someone is finally making. It's not like the return is total crap. Larsson is exactly what the Oilers need.

Bottom line is, Edmonton is not in a position to get the max out of deals right now. They want changes and everybody knows this. Teams will want the best possible return from Edmonton, not the other way around.

And as far as im concerned, Hall is a bit overrated. Sure he's an elite producer, but at times i've felt like he's also contributed to the terrible attitude that team has had at times.

Nah all the rangers fans who have "seen a lot of hall" say we ripped off Edmonton.

Funny that only Devils fans seem to be the only ones talking the oil fans off the ledge.

Yeah, Jersey did rip off Edmonton. The only way Jersey wins is that Larsson develops and Hall gets injured constantly and his career falls apart due to injuries.

Taylor Hall is a PROVEN FRANCHISE #1 winger. Larsson is a young top-4 defender with potential. The guy hasn't show ANY sign of progress to signify that he was going to be a legitimate #1 defender, nevermind a FRANCHISE defender.

Even the analysts are saying Edmonton is gambling here. This is a terrible and unnecessary deal on Edmonton's part.

Just take Hall and be happy with him. You guys won the trade by a landslide. Stop trying to justify Larsson as something more than he really is at this point.

If he becomes that, then good for him. As of right now, he's not.

Larsson can play top 2 minutes. Maybe he shouldn't be just yet but he can. The potential is absolutely there though to be an excellent #2.

I agree. The potential is there. I never disputed that. But you don't trade the for sure thing in Hall being a top 5 LW in the world, for potential.

Agreed. So many people on these boards are misinformed. Hall is an overpay, but I would rather trade Hall for Larsson than one year of Shatty and 3 years of Hamonic as my top pairing defensemen. Jason Demers is slightly worse if not the same as Hamonic.

Hamonic has 4 years on his contract, not 3. Don't accuse others of being misinformed when you make mistakes like that.

Larsson has played 5 seasons in the NHL. Its not like he was a rookie this season. Highly doubt he will ever become a true top pair guy. Maybe a decent #2 but thats a stretch imo. Atm he is a solid #4

My take is it adds a bit of cap for Edmonton to add a top 6 winger and another top 4 Dman. Obviously the 1.9 mil in savings doesn't allow them to do both but it will give them a bit more cushion. And given the market for RHD, or lack there of, this is the price you pay. Let alone a RHD who can move the puck and is on a team friendly deal.

Not for those trying to SPITE the Oilers and their fans while hiding behind the internet using fake names its not.

I dont know if you know how many Devils fans blew me right off the main boards when I tried to trade RNH for Larsson. Admittingly, Hall is currently >> RNH but the value isnt that far off.

Now , Hall is a GOD and Larsson is chopped liver. Where was this logic in all the time before the trade happened?

If EDM got Dubois or Tkachuk does this trade still happen? I think with Puljujarvi they are able to somewhat replace Hall.

Oh no, I missed one year. Give me a break. Im talking about people being misinformed in regards to how good a player is. Not how many years a player has left on his contract.

I am, but damn is Lars getting unfairly bashed here.

All anybody is looking at points. He played on, by far, the worst offensive team in the league. But also one the best defensive teams in the league. And he played a MAJOR part in that. His skating will always hold him back from being elite. That's why he will never be a number 1. But he is exactly the kind of player you need to win.

And that's fine, but the deal is still bad from Edmonton. No one is saying Larsson is ****. Larsson just isn't enough to deal an established elite winger for. Even with Hall's injuries, he's had 2 point per game seasons, one of 80 points in Edmonton of all places and this was prior to McDavid and even Draisaitl.

This is just not a good deal for Edmonton. They're banking on Larsson becoming a top pairing guy. He's not that as of yet. Just because he plays top pairing minutes in Jersey doesn't mean he's a legit top pairing defender on a team with a better defense. That's like putting a 4th liner in a 1st line role, having him put up 40 or so points and calling him a 1st liner. It doesn't fit.

Looking at today's trades it seems like it should have been Hall to Nashville, Weber to Habs and Subban to Edmonton.

Defenseman often take more time to develop, particularly their offensive game. And given the dearth of talent in NJ it is unsurprising that Larsson has yet to produce offensively.

I agree that Hall is the better player and has more value. I am surprised they couldn't get more for him. But Edmonton addressed a glaring need and got a player that should help them for years to come.

Yup. The guy is 6'3 200+ pounds and can skate. Puljujarvi if he is anything, should be able to put up 2nd line numbers next season.

I'm relatively impartial here but I spent a little time with Hall while I lived in Kingston, I really do think this is a trade that is going to work out for the Oilers. I think Hall could have returned more, but the Oilers did just fine. This really is an addition through subtraction and hands the reigns over to McDavid.

You may be mad now, but in the long term this trade is going to really change the EDM culture.

Edmonton still missing a big need, a defenseman who can get their forwards the puck.

No doubt, however, you could've likely returned a greater package with a player like Hall. I agree that they needed to move him for a defenseman but Larsson straight up is poor asset management.

Edmonton got better for sure.

The value is the small picture, this is about getting Edmonton back in the game. This move does this.
