Adam Larsson has been in the NHL for 5 seasons. Whose the last player who was already an established NHL player to be traded and have his offensive numbers significantly rise? Im not talking about unproven traded players.

Anyone's offensive numbers will rise playing top PP time on the oilers with that top 6 group.

As much as I think hall will be a stud (I really think he could get 85+ points and develop into a more complete player under Hynes - people forget he had 80 points a year ago on a real bad oilers team), I think a transaction like this was a must for the Oilers. I really think Larsson is underrated here, and can be a top pairing defenseman. A lot of D take longer to develop, but it seems like Larsson's game is really rounding out, and I think his strong first pass will really help Edmonton forwards. For Larsson doubters, see http://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2016/2/12/10974744/new-top-dog-adam-larsson

Assuming Lucic and Demers sign, a top 6 and top 4 like this is pretty good. Still got some work to do, but getting there...

Lucic - Mcdavid - Eberle
Draisaitl - RNH - Puljujarvi

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - Demers

Lucic - McDavid - Eberle
Pouliot - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
Maroon - RNH - Yakupov
Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian

certainly not a soft looking forward group

This trade made it in before Hockey's Future closes for good (7/1/16).

I'll clarify for those who didn't know this was happening, the message boards will remain in tact for now but Hockey's Future is gone the day after tomorrow.

Guess you can say the Devils have a better future than hockey does...

Horrible trade for Edmonton. Hall is a PROVEN #1 winger. One of the top-3 or so wingers in the game.

I don't care what any Devil fan says, Larsson is not a legit #1 defenseman. I've seen more than enough of him being in my market to know that he's not a legit #1. He's a good top-4 guy that was used as a #1 because of terrible defensive depth. Was Rozsival a legit #1 with the Rangers? No, but he was used as one. Same thing. Larsson is a good #3-4 on a team with better defensive depth.

There's also nothing to suggest that he'll be the franchise defenseman that he was billed to be and worth giving up an ESTABLISHED franchise winger for.

No matter what way you cut it, this is a TERRIBLE trade for Edmonton. RNH or Eberle would have been a better deal for Edmonton and a lot closer in value.

Defensemen > wingers

What are you going to do? Go into next season with the same D? Edmonton was hilariously awful last season. At some point something had to change.

Edmonton, over the past week, will have walked away with Lucic, Larsson, and Puljujarvi and subtracted Hall. The Oilers just got a ton better.

Two 1st overalls on the 3rd line. Crazy. If the Oilers can get their **** together and start clicking, that offence will rip teams apart. Too bad that group will never get it together.

Is that why their highest scoring dman last year had 30 points? and the year before that 31 points?

And if ANYONE can produce offensive numbers playing on the EDM pp then doesnt that degrade Larsson's numbers if he produces on that pp?

Actually I bet I've watched more of Larsson than any non NJ fan in this thread.

I always watch NJ games because I follow Schneider still because he's my favorite player. Larsson is NO WAY more than a #4 currently.

But go ahead and tell me how I'm not informed. I think you're the one who needs to be informed.

He was on NJs top pairing.

How is he a number 4?

Lmao Oil.

I get they have a surplus of forwards. I get that. But if you have a surplus of that, DON'T TRADE YOUR TOP SCORER OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS!

I'm not even an Oilers fan and this trade pisses me off for how shortsighted it is. If it were RNH, a guy who's a 2C now, it'd make much more sense. If it were Yakupov, it'd be a solid trade. But not Hall. Not a top level left winger in exchange for a guy who's good defensively, but isn't much of an offensive threat.

Smh Oilers.

SMH.
If you take the time and get the situation, then you know they had little choice.

They have tried your method of not trading their best players and sitting on a surplus. It hasn't worked out.

The Oilers had to make a trade. They knew that, their fans knew that, and all the other GMs knew that. They had no leverage whatsoever. Everyone was going to try to rip them off because they knew the Oilers needed to make a trade and break up a losing core.

Their choices were: A) make a losing trade that helps deal with their main problems or B) make no trade, go into the following season with basically the same defense and the same core players and hope for a trade to pop up eventually.

B was unacceptable for them. So they had to make a trade. If this was the best trade they could make....it just shows how cornered they were. Sometimes you have to lose a trade to win. The Oilers desperately needed a better defense and to move guys out that had been losing there for years. This does that.

Yep, I watch every single Devils game...but I'm un-informed?

You are clearly in the minority in that stance so...

Over a 3 year period Larsson has the least amount of offensive zone starts yet is #8 in FA60. He also has the 3rd best GA60 over the last three years. This guy is vlasic. And 23. Oilers got better. That's incredible.

Interesting trade. I guess there's a world where this turns out really badly for Oilers, but it could also be great for them. Larsson played in his own zone so much on defense that in EDM he could put up better offensive production. Also Hall is not infallible, he had 26 goals and 65 points last year in playing all 82 games and does not rank high in terms of non goal or points value. When Kessel was his age for example he put up a 37 G/82 Pts. Hall hasn't proven he's a superstar winger

They will long before the Canucks do.

This is an excellent trade from an Oiler POV. Thats not what the haters and trolls are harping on.

They are harping on the value. And they are right. Its short.

Larsson + 1st round pick (lottery protected) in 2017 would be fair value for Hall. We didnt get it. So what? Life goes on.

Its a trade i do except I hold out of another half baked prospect at least.

yup.

Edmonton is a better team after this trade but Taylor Hall is a better player than Adam Larsson and is worth more imo.

Weird circumstances but both teams will do well here.

I still think the Oilers should have pushed harder for a 1st round pick to hedge their bets but it is what it is.

So Oilers could have taken Larsson in 2011 at #3 or #4 instead of RNH, and picked up pieces in the process, instead decide to trade 5 years later, a different and more productive #1 overall.

Makes sense.
Centre depth - McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Letestu
RW Depth - Eberle, Puljujarvi, Kassian, Korpikoski
LW Depth - Hall, Pouliot, Maroon, Hendricks and most likely Lucic.

It makes sense.
