The way I view this is the Oilers basically drafted an NHL ready defenseman in Larsson with the 4th overall pick and saved some cash in the meantime.
The difference between Puljujarvi and Hall will be minimal once Puljujarvi plays, because he is a high impact forward, just as Hall was. They reset the clock in terms of forward age as well and are in the process of undoing the incompetence that has plagued the Oilers since 2006. None of the 1st round picks from 2007-2013 were as good as Oiler fans were sold. They had the expectations that they would be the 80's Oilers all over again, and those players simply were not that good.
Now they have a good forward group with McDavid/Draisaitl/Puljujarvi and now a decent group with Larsson/Nurse/Klefbom.
This is the kind of move that needed to be made, and probably should have been made 2-3 years ago (Say by drafting other players instead of Yakupov).
