Here you are in February talking about how Larsson has surpassed Greene in "many metrics". But now his success is due to Greene? You also called him closer to a #1 than a #2.

Last month you called Larsson a top 30 dman. But now he's a #2 or #3 dman?

So what gives? Are you stating that something in Larsson's game from the past month (where he has actually played zero games) has changed to make him a non top 30 dman in the NHL?

Haha I love you, Roo. It's truly charming that you enter this thread to nitpick some of my statements made months ago and took the time to look them up. I now know who to call when I need to do some quick "digging" on people.

You're right, I should not have called him a #3 because he is one of the best defensive d in the league. It is just fair to wonder how much of his rise was due to getting time with Greene when so many have been much better with AG than away.

It feels good to get a better offensive player than Giroux, and not pay fair value. Can you forgive me for being so excited?

Just listened to Taylor Hall's conference call, he sounds pissed and slighted. Wow.

He should be. And he was slighted. I had such high hopes for Chiarelli only to find he's as big a donkey as what we've suffered thru for 20 GD years.

I would be too! He gets traded for a good player when he is elite, and at the same time he goes from playing on a wing with McDavid to playing with Travis Freaking Zajac?

I'd be angry.

Hall wasn't going to play with McDavid. His center was Draisaitl and now he's got Henrique.

Larsson will put up more points on the Oil guaranteed. Way more talent at forward than NJ. He was not put in a position to succeed offensively at all in NJ. Only 20% o zone starts and less than 10 seconds average pp toi/game. There is no way imo that TMac uses Larsson like that. Chia made this trade partly based on potential he sees in the player, that is obvious. Larsson has a ton of room to grow.

It's obvious that Edmonton lost this trade on value alone, HOWEVER the question is are they a better team now? Especially if they were to add Lucic in the offseason.

Larsson isn't outstanding, but he fills a huge hole in their line-up.

If it was me I would be clicking my heels and yelling from the top of the highest mountain.

Hall is finally going to play for a Franchise that competes.
the Devils are competing now? Might of been excited if he went to a contender that didn't just get rid of their number one dman for him.

The only thing that would make this worse for the Oilers is if they sign Lucic to a long term high cap deal to replace Hall.
Edmonton has an exciting team with a great future but moves like this and Lucic will probably help the team in the near term but hurt them in a couple of years.

You don't know Todd McLellen. Its not a shock the Sharks "defensive" dmen Braun and Vlasic were more productive last year.

Yes... the only worse thing would be to get a 1/2 LW to replace Hall....give your head a shake. Worse would be going into next season with Pouliot as our best LW.

Currently Edmonton loses on value, but Larsson certainly has a ceiling high enough to make this good for both.

I think that's how teams will view this deal in the long run. EDM needed D, and this was the best trade they could make for a dman apparently. We'll see! Someone had to go. Seemed like the only Oiler who didnt have chemistry with McDavid was Hall, but I only watched a few games.

This is a crazy trade - Edmonton got robbed although they do have a good defenceman now

I think this is a good trade for Edmonton, I was a long time believer that they had to acquire a good young RHD, even if they had to massively overpay. Even by trading Hall (who is a top 5 LW on a great contract) for Larsson. They had to lose out in value. It sucks, but they won't make the playoffs without an RHD to play in the top pairing.

It's a shame they couldnt go after a more pure PMD guy like Vatanen or Barrie. He fits their needs much more.
