 If you think Larsson is a #4 dmen, there is nothing to talk about. Maybe do a bit of research and learn more about the player.

Ok let's say Ottawa got him were does he slot in

Karlsson
Phanuef
Methot
Ceci
Wideman
Borocop

Like this is how I'd rank our defence best to worse. Slot him in.

Maybe YOU should bud. I have watched plenty of Devils hockey as I still follow Schneider. If you think Larsson is anything more than a 4th dman than yes you're right, there is nothing to talk about.

He has room to grow. He has potential for sure. But they traded Taylor ****ing Hall for him. That is down right rediculous. Chia made Benning look like Albert Einstein up in here.

If Lucic signs with Edmonton there should be an investigation. Funny this trade happens less than 24 hours after it was reported Lucic agreed to sign with the oilers.

Investigation into what? He negotiated with the Oilers during the window allowed. If they have a handshake agreement who cares?

He has 2nd pairing QoC, 2nd pairing offensive stats, and 1st pairing minutes. You tell me how he isn't a 3-4D currently.

I agree with you.

Larsson reminds me a lot of m.e vlasic, just younger with more offensive potential.

He's going to come to the oilers and put up drastically more points.

A year from now is anyone going to be nearly as upset if larsson is your best defensive zone player and manages to put up 35 or so points?

Thats the point of discussion though. It's IF Larsson can do that. Cant give him credit for what he hasnt done. Its a huge jump to double his production. What if he doesnt and Hall scores 40 with Jersey next year? No one can answer.

Chia built a winner in Boston and has many years of experience. If you think this deal is atrocious, maybe it is you who doesn't understand how things are valued, not him.

The fact is that he inherited a deeply sick team, with no bargaining leverage. Chiarelli got a Dman who can help turn this team around. He did not compromise just to preserve trade value. God knows we have enough trade value laying around, and it all will depreciate if we wait too long. Maybe this trade is proof that it already has.

Man. Only Chiarelli can get hosed in a trade AND simultaneously drive up price of RD defenseman be virtue of his overpay.

Nice job.

Bad trade for Edmonton on paper but they did get better in reality, no matter how you slice it.

I hope people will admit that they are wrong about Larsson once the Oilers reach the playoffs.

Even if we win a Cup with Larsson people will say we could have been a Dynasty with Hall. The Oilers are a hated team for landing so many high draft picks and ruining them according to HF.

Youre actually not allowed to talk numbers right now so that is the problem. How did they get Lucic to agree to sign without numbers being discussed?

Kings gave Lucic permission to talk to teams. No actual Oiler people have said peep about Lucic. It's all just media outlets looking for hits on their Twitter.

Watch him play, start with that.

I have, alot. My team also plays NJ tons. He is a solid top 4 nothing more, nothing less. Hall is a huge overpayment. If Edm fans actually believe they get a top pair guy they will be disappointed.

How do you know they discussed numbers? Where you there? The Oilers just shed a big contract so they don't need to really discuss numbers until tmrw. You're reaching man.

Subban's caphit is like 5m more than Larsson's, so I'm sure that's in play for anyone who's asking why they didn't turn around and ask for PK.

Still don't like the return, though. I see more of a Stralman or pre-injury Marc Staal in Larsson than a superstar. Those are nice dudes you can win with, but Chia must have seen big upside too.

I'll start out by saying Adam Larsson is a very good player in his own right. He is among the best defensive dman in the league and has good, not great offensive skills (tho, not on the pp). But you have to wonder how much of his recent success is due to Andy Greene. Fayne, Severson and Larsson have all looked amazing with Greene. Now, Severson had a good, not great season without Greene, but Fayne hasn't come close w.o him.

The Devils got a superstar for a #2 or #3 dman.

Jonathan Willis:

NHL forwards, 2012-16, min 1,000 minutes, ranked by 5v5 PTS/60:
1. Sidney Crosby: 2.71
2. Jamie Benn: 2.54
3. Taylor Hall: 2.49

Here you are in February talking about how Larsson has surpassed Greene in "many metrics". But now his success is due to Greene? You also called him closer to a #1 than a #2.

Breaking this down logically:

1) Larsson has been a top pair defensemen for over a year and has surpassed Greene in many metrics such as P/60, GF and possession stats. But let's just say he's a number 2 atm

2) My man, Sasso, says in the Rielly v. Larsson thread-

"Not a Chance, Ghost>Reilly>Larsson"

So if Larsson is already a #2 (and probably closer to a #1) Sasso is suggesting that Ghost will definitely be a #1

Last month you called Larsson a top 30 dman. But now he's a #2 or #3 dman?

Adam Larsson should crack the top 30 on D

So what gives? Are you stating that something in Larsson's game from the past month (where he has actually played zero games) has changed to make him a non top 30 dman in the NHL?

I'd still be okay with it, because as I've said on these boards for years. I don't like Taylor halls game and I think the oilers are a better team without him.

As other posters have said, hall puts up numbers and it sexy to make lists about points per sixty and what not, but the guy had an absolutely abysmal iq and vision.

are you using those HERO charts that go back 3 years? I just looked it up and he was top pairing for QoC and usage for NJ, with Greene. It wasn't even slightly close to the next Dmen on the roster. He also had similar points to the top point getters on his team for defense despite little PP time, and led significantly in plus minus despite having tough assignments.

I think NJ won the trade, but what they gave up definitely hurt them.
