Gave up no assets, didn't offer him ridiculous cap. He wasn't eligible to be signed. Came out no worse for wear, how's the Larsson trade going for you?

Do all your failed UFA attempts get to meet the mayor?? Lol..yeesh

Depends on the winger and the defenseman. Larsson will never be a high point person while Hall could be one of the top LW in the game.

Hall is one of the best LWers in the game right now...I'm willing to bet he scores 75 points in jersey

but IF Larsson blossoms into a #2, then the Oilers can still win this trade and reading this article:
http://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2016/2/12/10974744/new-top-dog-adam-larsson

it makes me feel a lot better about the trade

bottom line is we needed a change and a shake up...I'm heartbroken it was Hall that got the axe but something had to be done

Absolutely disagree with this, Larsson is absolutely a top pairing minute gobbler. He was a BEAST this season and is only getting better. I've watched his entire career unfold and he is constantly getting better IMO. I think you guys will be pleased with him once you watch him play every night and don't judge from afar. If he gets PP time, that he wasn't getting in NJ due to how many minutes he was getting on ES/PK, you will see his point production go up as well. He absolutely has the ability to do so.

18 points this season and all hero charts etc says he isnt anything more than a top4(Not close to top pair). I watched NJ a good amount and he is a good defensemen but saying he is a top pair player is false and proven by almost every stat etc.
I was one of the people who thought Edm should really give up alot to get a top pair defensemen, but this is just stupid. Elite winger for a top 4 defensemen is highway robbery...

Well I think everyone knew that if a deal for a RHD to Edm was made there was a good chance the Oilers would be overpaying. They overpaid and I'm surprised they didn't get a bit more out of NJ but I don't think it's as bad as people are making it seem. Let's see if they get Lucic and what sort of term it ends up being.

For the people that are saying the Oilers should have traded RNH or Eberle...do you seriously think Chia didn't try? Of course we all would have liked to trade RNH or Ebs but they don't land us a defencemen like Larsson. Larsson needs to improve his game and I'm confident with our forward group, he will. This move could be one step back but two steps forward for the Oilers.

As of right now, we lost. I think we should have got more but depending on how Larsson develops, we may come out even in a year or two.

Trust me, I have the best intentions for the Oilers in my heart and I want this team to improve from its position as a laughing stock, but I honestly don't see Larsson's acquisition making Edmonton's defense massively better, as you put it. It's a different ball-game in the WC with the travel and tougher competition and Larsson will have his hands a lot fuller than he'd have had in NJ. He truly needs to step up his game if this ends up being a win-win trade in the future, but I don't quite see that right now.

Would love to be proven wrong.

This is still a thing? I'm not a huge Larsson fan, but he is now leaving a division that pitted him against Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin over and over again all season. Tougher competition.

As a Ranger fan, all I know is that I hate adding Hall to that already long list of elite offensive talent their divisional rivals boast.

The big problem was that Edm needed a 1st pairing dman and noone was interested at all in RNH, Eberle, Yakupov. Simple as.

I don't think you understand the people thinking Edmonton got ripped off believe Larsson is not a number one D. Therefore you didn't trade Hall for a number 1 D.

In a vacuum Hall is easily worth more than Larsson but I honestly believe that this trade made the Oilers a better team. With there depth up front and rumors that Lucic is pretty much already an Oiler they were able to absorb the blow of losing a trade. Sometimes I think people get to caught up in wanting to win the trade that they don't look at the big question. Does this trade make our team better? Again I think this trade makes the Oilers a much better team.

So, EDM finally got their RHD, PMD, who can QB the PP, and really rip it from the backend.

No? ok.

Larsson is actually going to be good for EDM, but they got somewhat screwed in this deal.

Addition by subtraction for the Oilers. Marginal win by New Jersey.

EDM has so many good solid young players that they decided to sell low on Hall for an underrated Larsson, who won't be elite but more so good.

I like this tradefor NJ, but it's not AWFUL!

He had like 68 percent dzone starts a devils offense in front of him and almost no pp time. The 18 points is impressive

Unbelievable how many hockeyfans don't know about Larsson abilities and his development last seasons, he's not sexy but damn good. This is good for Edmonton going forward, going to be fun laughing at y'all later.

Larsson is a good player and EDM really needs a guy like him, but he should never in a million years cost Taylor Hall.

It's all academic if Hall continues to improve.
I've said for a long time that Taylor Hall is one of the best young wingers in the game and would thrive in a more structured environment. What he has done in Edmonton over the years given the lack of structure is IMO under appreciated by most fans. NJ is going to love this kid.

I would assume considering this move, the Oilers probably have a deal in place for Milan Lucic... I still don't like the deal for EDM but it doesn't sting as much if they get Lucic.

They could be thinking that Hall is a expensive price to pay but if they can somewhat replace him with Lucic and also get Larsson then it wont be so bad.

Maybe, why not? You want us to not chase UFA's? I don't get how the Leafs not signing a player who wasn't even eligible to be signed is on par with you trading your highest producing forward for Larsson... but I guess people go to some crazy lengths to rationalize that it's not so bad.

You can bet if McDavid is pondering UFA status, he will also be catered to. It's life, it didn't cost the Leafs anything.
