Confirmed Trade: [NJD/EDM] Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson ‎- Part 2

I've long thought that Edmonton would have to lose the trade to get better. They did on both accounts. This may help NJ more, but Edmonton still improves. They didn't need Hall as much as they needed a decent top pairing defenseman and everyone knew it. They had no leverage and the market for defense is crazy right now. Oilers fans will feel better next year when their team is finally competitive.

Somebody had to do something for the Oilers. Somebody had to stop the spiral, somehow.
Was this the right move? Time will tell. Did Jersey get the better player? Probably but are the Oilers on their way to becoming a better team? That's what needs to happen, that's what someone needed to do. To step up. Again time will tell.

I dont this as bad trade as most of you.

I consider this win-win eventho NJ could have added small extra. In the end Oilers got what they wanted.

Credit to Chiarelli for finally trading one of the golden boys, something I was wondering if they were willing to do.

But that is an awful return. Oiler fans will spin it like they always do but hard to see how Larsson is a good return for Hall.

All those reports about the Oilers constantly overrating their guys in trade talks and this is what they end up doing? Seems odd.

oilers fans were talking so much **** when the Canucks traded McCann and a 2nd for Gudbranson. LOL you guys just traded Taylor ****ing Hall for Larsson.

Even Jim Benning is shaking his head at this trade.

How's this for irony?

Wayne Gretzky some 30 years ago called the New Jersey Devils a Mickey Mouse Club after a 13-4 whipping by the Edmonton Oilers.

30 years later, it's looked as the tables have turned. :handclap::popcorn:

This. He might eventually become a 1D, but they traded a top 10 LW for a 3D.

well, according to a lot of Flames fans, Hall was the problem...

the only way the Oilers "win" this trade is if Larsson continues his development and becomes a #2
he's on a good contract so thats a positive, but this is a clear loss for the Oilers at the moment

He's one of the biggest minutes eaters in the entire NHL and routinely gets some of the toughest matchups while playing on one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

He immediately makes Edmonton's defense massively better.

Trust me, I have the best intentions for the Oilers in my heart and I want this team to improve from its position as a laughing stock, but I honestly don't see Larsson's acquisition making Edmonton's defense massively better, as you put it. It's a different ball-game in the WC with the travel and tougher competition and Larsson will have his hands a lot fuller than he'd have had in NJ. He truly needs to step up his game if this ends up being a win-win trade in the future, but I don't quite see that right now.

Would love to be proven wrong.

If Larsson got Taylor Hall straight up...I can't wait to see what Shattenkirk gets us....

Probably not the same as you think. 2 teams need to be on the same path at the same time for the stars to align and make a specific type of deal. Most likely someone trading for Shattenkirk doesn't have a Hall they are willing to move. Or even have one.

This improves the Devils way more than it improves Edmonton. I knew the Oilers were going to have to overpay, but blech. I would rather stand pat than take that return.

Hall could've easily fetched a much better defenseman than Adam larsson, who while being a good player is a not even a PP quaterback nor a defensive stalwart and i'm not sure if he'll ever put up more than 35-40 points. Everytime i watch him, i don't see the offensive prowess that a number 1 d-man around the league have. At this point in his career, I'd say he's a solid number 3. Meanwhile Hall is a legit top line Winger. Shero robbed Chia here big time.

I'm looking forward to Hall on the IR half the season too.
He plays safer than he used to and most of his early injures were flukey. Got stepped on during warm-ups. got hurt fighting.

Juniors shoulder injury was from a hit and then he didn't get surgery for it till he was in the nhl so he missed time for that.

Cripes Edmonton.. I haven't see Larsson play alot, maybe a dozen games the past couple years, but I remember being a bit underwhelmed by his over all play. Maybe I expected too much for a 4th overall.

This is like waiving Hall, and keeping Marincin.

Well we must have still won the trade as one of your Cowtown brothers called Taylor Hall a cancer yesterday.

The Oilers totally won this trade and he is. Remember how it took Hedman a while to develop too? Young D need time and you guys got a very good one. I really hate this deal.

And that's assuming Taylor Hall at age 24 doesn't improve to become one of the top wingers in the game.
I think Hall is by far the safer bet.

You may or May not realize it but Edmonton just got better

He might have been - but we don't know. I can't imagine too many reputable Flames fans saying that. For all we know, it could be Eberle, Hall, Nuge etc

If Larsson was already in Edmonton or in Montreal or Toronto he would arguably be a #1 defenseman . nobody watches the devils as thy are still living off of the "they're boring and play the trap" cliche. He is being undervalued here. It was a dry market for a rhd and they got what they could get. Is hall a better player. Ya. But is he very injury prone. Yes. That probably lowered his value.
