Some of my fellow Oiler fans are looking at this short sighted, am I unhappy Hall is gone yes, do I wish we could have got Subban for Hall staright up yeah but that was not going to happen. The prospect of Klefbom-Larsson anchoring the back end with McDavid, Draisital and Puljujärvi running things up front is a beautiful thought. This trade looks bad in the short term but we have actually taken a step in our rebuild.

Classic HF, tell Oilers nobody will trade a #1 defenceman for Taylor Hall. Trade him for a #2 and everyone says should have gotten a #1. Good times

I've seen this trend for years lol. Never ever put stock into what HF says. This trade hurts a lot right now but I see now that it will help us in the long run. Larsson will be a player for us and should thrive in a more offensive environment.

Hall has 3 elite seasons left and then probably 3 more good season of high offensive production.

Larsson will be on the Oilers right side top-4 for the next decade.

This deal is a lot closer than some think.

Whoa there! We're talking Taylor Hall not Brett Hull.
He's 24 years old and should have lots of great years left.

Oiler fans were over valuing their $6 million trio. Unfortunately for them, going 6 years without playoffs and being in the bottom 3 in the standings save the lockout season hurts their value. Even Duchene and landeskog for the Avalanche, their shine is wearing off cause they aren't winning.

Look at FLa and what happened with JBo and OJ. Spent about a decade in the NHL before they sipped any okayoff action. That drops your value.

Not sure how NJ sets up their blue line. They moved gelinas for a pick at the deadline and now move Larsson. Didn't qualify Merrill but insiders seem to imply a deal will get done.

Was it a bit of over payment for the oilers? Yes, if you view hall as a 1st line winger while Larsson right now is. #3 dman.

Larsson has had some ups and downs so it's hard to peg if he rises to the level of a M-E Vlasic or a N. Hmjaralson from Chicago who I would consider the top level #2 dmen. Even a Dan hamhuis in his prime was a good #2. Larsson wo t put up big numbers, but has the ability to provide solid defence. He has been asked in nj to play top pairing. Some ups and downs doing that

As long as Edmonton is realistic in what to expect, it was a move they had to make. Needed to change up the forwards and get defence on yhe right side.

Larsson is so underrated.

Thank you.

Everyone with common sense knew RNH or Eberle wouldn't return Larsson. We all saw the proposal's time and time again.

Hall or Draisaitl were the only pieces we had to offer for a defenceman like Larsson. I probably would have moved Draisaitl instead of Hall, but it's water under the bridge.

Edmonton now has 3 top 4 defenceman with UFA period just around the corner.

A step off a bridge into some spiky rocks, technically is a step forward.

In what world is Larsson a top pair defensemen? 18 points and his hero chart he is a top 4 defensemen at best. Horrible for Edm.

Hall is 1 year older and already put up elite numbers before hitting his prime.

Larsson is barely a 3/4 and has 0 offensive upside.

Also:

NHL forwards, 2012-16, min 1,000 minutes, ranked by 5v5 PTS/60:
1. Sidney Crosby: 2.71
2. Jamie Benn: 2.54
3. Taylor Hall: 2.49

Value is definitely off but Oilers needed a good d-man, if no one is willing to do fair value you have no choice but to overpay.
