That is completely immaterial now. He is going to be counted on to fix Edmonton's defensive issues and he'd better step up.

He's one of the biggest minutes eaters in the entire NHL and routinely gets some of the toughest matchups while playing on one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

He immediately makes Edmonton's defense massively better.

On the face of it, a pretty horrible value return for Hall.... but I think in a couple of years, as Larsson grows as a D man, this will make Edmonton a better team. He's only 23 and has time to grow and mature as a D man... Right hand dman, as has been said in other places, that is like a unicorn right now in terms of demand.

I have been preaching to Oiler fans they needed to lose a trade to move forward. I think you lost this trade, but I think you did not move forward enough. I apologize, but your front office made a mistake here. You guys valued Hall more than they did.

I think Larsson MAY still become a real stud but man, it is utterly hilarious for this trade to be made straight up after the things Edmonton fans have said it would take to land Hall.

Hamonic + Nelson + MDC + 2017 1st, etc.

Larsson for Hall. Straight up. Love it.

Edit: that said, I want Edmonton to turn the corner now, in the "McDavid era". This is a step. They still have a ton of offensive talent. I hope they move Eberle for more help. Larsson could still develop into a great anchor for them.

Live look in Edmonton.... New Rogers Center burning in the background ...

But Connor...we're getting Milan Lucic..

After the Reinhart trade and the Hall trade it seems like the Oilers are just treading water. It just shows how hard it is to get top defensemen unless you draft them.

Lucic - McDavid - Eberle
Pouliot - Draisaitl - Puljujavri
Maroon - RNH - Yakupov
Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - Demers
Davidson - Fayne

That's the roster we're potentially looking at. Looks like a club that will finally move out of the basement

I think Value wise, It's a New Jersey win when you look at the value of the players and level of play itself.

When you factor in the player's affect on the team's play, I think the trade leans towards Edmonton. You will not have to worry about McDavid coming too low in the defensive zone, the transition play will improve for Edmonton immensely. This trade will allow Edmonton to play a more open-style which says something with how they played last year.

Hall won't affect NJ's overall team play that much. He will help in the goal-scoring department but not much else. He will be supported by better two-way players but not as potential impactful players like he had in Edmonton. If he can get his two-way game at a better level then the trade in terms of the affect on team play, will become more equal, or at least a little more center. You will see a slight decline in play from the backend with Larsson gone though, but it's NJ, they will find guys to help make up for it.

I think Larsson should've came with at a few draft picks or at least a B-Level Prospect.

I give this trade for Edmonton 3.5 stars out of 5 because you gave up your 2nd best goal-scorer/impactful player but you improved your team's play.
I give this trade for NJ 2 stars out of 5 because you just diminished your backend by getting rid of your key guy back there to improve your wing. If this was for a center similar to Hall's ability this is a 4/5 move.

This is the kind of move that speeds up rebuilds. Devils got a star for a good player, but a defensive dman with average offensive skills. Shero crushed it

A few months ago you called Larsson a top 30 dman in the league. Now he's a "good" player.
