Hall is a guy who can have good stats, but be really hard to win with. Lot of bad angle shots at bad times leading to lots of one and dones in the O zone. He's been way overrated for far too long. Seeing the return proves it.

Lol I know.

Plus it's not like Edmonton has any leverage here. Every team knows that they need a dman. It could have been much worse, at least they got a guy that is a legit young top pairing anchor.

Lol, NJ did not have any significant leverage over Edmonton in this deal. Every team in the league wants a player like Hall; so what if GMs know that Edmonton is looking for a dman? It's never too hard to discern any team's needs.

My take on the trade is that Edmonton overpayed to get a defenseman they desperately needed. I don't think they severely overpayed, but just enough to make you wonder what that NYI package was..

Hall could've easily fetched a much better defenseman than Adam larsson, who while being a good player is a not even a PP quaterback nor a defensive stalwart and i'm not sure if he'll ever put up more than 35-40 points. Everytime i watch him, i don't see the offensive prowess that a number 1 d-man around the league have. At this point in his career, I'd say he's a solid number 3. Meanwhile Hall is a legit top line Winger. Shero robbed Chia here big time.

Absolutely disagree with this, Larsson is absolutely a top pairing minute gobbler. He was a BEAST this season and is only getting better. I've watched his entire career unfold and he is constantly getting better IMO. I think you guys will be pleased with him once you watch him play every night and don't judge from afar. If he gets PP time, that he wasn't getting in NJ due to how many minutes he was getting on ES/PK, you will see his point production go up as well. He absolutely has the ability to do so.

The bottom line is Edmonton just got better for less money and more term.

I'm also going to say NJD just got worse and it costs them more per year. No matter how anyone values the two players individually.

The big problem was that Edm needed a 1st pairing dman and noone was interested at all in RNH, Eberle, Yakupov. Simple as.

Today must officially be recognized as the day that fans of Canadian teams got kicked in the nuts. Hall is gone, Subban is gone, and Toronto doesn't land Stamkos.

I'm thankful I'm not a fan of any of those teams, otherwise I'd be livid.

Bad trade for Edmonton on paper but they did get better in reality, no matter how you slice it.

I hope people will admit that they are wrong about Larsson once the Oilers reach the playoffs.

Larsson had a lower ppg than Tanev last year.

What separates these two players as shut down dman besides age and potential? I mean yeah potential is important , but Larsson hasnt shown he has that offensive upside and youd think Hall could have fetched an established top pairing guy.

And for those mentioning the cap space it brings in for the Oilers that is a negative. Creating cap space to give a declining Lucic a bad deal is not a good thing for the Oilers.

I pray that the Oilers get Lucic. I have zero concerns facing him for the next 5-7 years, especially considering the type of contract he is rumoured to get.

One or two know nothings maybe, but that was never the consensus opinion of Devils fans and it's revisionist history to claim so. The vast majority thought he was still developing and wanted to keep him on the team, plain and simple.

Fair enough. I'm not saying he's bad. I'm just saying this is a ****ing good trade for NJ and it's not close to me.

I'll put this in perspective :

Bobby ****ing Ryan got Silfberberg a first and and another former safe bet first rounder prospect.

Gaborik got Dorsett, Brassard and John Moore

Lucic got a First, Moore and a prospect.

Nick Foligno got Mark Methot.

Taylor Hall returned Adam Larsson

Defensemen >>> Wingers

That's not how it works. Number one D>First line winger. Maybe even a legit number 2. Now a now three D vs one of the best wingers in the league? No contest. Larsson will not have as big of an impact as Hall had. He isn't that good. He has no offense. He's a solid defender, you need to be more than that to put a number one defenseman.
