Minnesota - the state of disappointment??

Not every state can be Michigan when it comes to producing quality and quantity NHLers

The more things change the more they stay the same. Minnesota, Michigan and Massachusetts have 4 players each on the 4Nations squad and along with NY are still the top producing states going back going near 50 years.

I graduated college in 1977. If you were to take the best 100 US Players NCAA AGED in 1976-77 the top 4 states would have been Minnesota, Massachusetts
Michigan and New York.

Go ahead to 2025 (48 years) and SURPRISE, its the same four states with the most NHL players...lol.

Not so small anymore.

When I was in College (1973-74 thru 1976-77) St. Paul\Minneapolis itself along with The Iron Range produced as many uf not more players than the Twin City suburbs did. St. Paul\Minneapolis produced Holmgren, Gorence, Larson, Anderson.

Now the suburbs dominate and Minneapolis\St. Paul not much.

Those are all nhl players. I agree the depth isn't great. But it's not like I threw random ahlers in there.

Minnesota remains a step above, they like they always have been. Also worth noting is that Michigan has twice the population. So the hockey cultures in the two states aren’t even really comparable, IMO

13/20 Miracle on Ice players were from MN.

MN consistently has the most NHLers and NCAA D1 players despite having way less people than all of MA, MI, NY.

The gap in the women’s game is even wider.

Did you not read my reply? I already stated I was mistaken thinking the Hughes brothers were born here. Step above in quantity sure. I'd still easily take Michigan's quality.
