I don't get the outrage of Oilers fans, nor do I understand so many people thinking this was a horrible trade for Edmonton. Young top 4 defenseman with Larsson's ability and upside are at such a premium in this league. I think for this to be a good trade for Edmonton Larsson needs to continue to get better over the next few years but at his age and with his skill set there is no reason to think that won't happen. For New Jersey, they get an absolute stud point producing winger in his prime, but they gave up a really good young player/asset in the process.

People always want to say this team won the trade or that team won the trade and overreact to an extreme opinion, but in my opinion this is the definition of a true hockey move which makes sense for and benefits both teams.

Agreed, we needed to lose a trade to shore up the defence, something a lot of Oil fans have been clamouring for. I know it sucks to lose Hall, but I think getting Pool Party made this decision easier.

Jersey fans hate Larsson being traded as well. Both guys meant a lot to the teams.

I'd put all of them ahead of Larsson. How many wingers would you put ahead of Hall?

There is some maybes in this list - but you're not wrong. Hall is on the short list for LW - Top 10 easily. Top 7 potentially.

How many of them are available?

Of the available, how many teams want to trade with Edmonton?

Of those teams, who needs a LW?

Of those that do, who can afford to send the dman out for a LW coming back?

Of those that can, how many can easily take on Hall's cap hit?

HF Board tends to get tunnel vision during trade talks and only look at trades based purely on 1:1 value.

The sad thing for Edm is that they moved their most valuable player(except Mcjesus) and didnt get a top pair defensemen in return....

In a simulation
Adam Larsson is 23 years old which is very young for an NHL defenseman and is just starting to scratch the surface of his full upside. I think it's going to be very interesting to look back at people's reactions to this trade from today, in about 2 or 3 years.

whats more a valuable...a 23 min/night defenseman or a winger?

Depends what that defenseman brings those 23 minutes a night. It takes a certain type to be able to passably play 23 minutes a night in the NHL, but not all of those both capable and asked to do it necessarily should ideally be doing it. Also, you're attaching a positive benchmark to the defenseman and none to the winger. If the winger is one of the best wingers in the sport and the 23 minute defenseman simply brings 23 passable minutes (not saying that's specifically Larsson), the answer, in a vacuum, is easily the winger. You're not asking a fair question really.

Hall is definetly a top 5 LW. Im a NYR fan and it sucks for me because Hall will destroy Girardi....
