Confirmed Trade: [NJD/EDM] Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson ‎- Part 2

I don't see how so many people view this trade as a clear-cut NJD win. Oilers got what they needed and so did NJD.

Looking at these EDM's top 9 forwards everyone knew they were trying to trade forwards for d-men so nobody would contemplate paying through the nose for one of EDM's forwards.

Lucic (assumed) - McDavid - Eberle
Puljujarvi (maybe not next yr) - Draisaitl - Pouliot
Maroon - RNH - Yakupov

note that I probably screwed up some positions but these are the clear cut top 9 unless Puljujarvi doesn't make it

With that noted the top two UFA d-men were taken of the market (Yandle & Goligoski) so EDM was left in a bad situation with no tangible way to immediately improve without a trade, so unless EDM fans wanted another year wasted, they should be thanking Chiarelli because the defense is not that bad now:

Sekera - Larsson
Klefbom - Demers (assumed once again)
Davidson - Nurse
Fayne

(again, the pairings and R/L positioning are probably wrong)

This looks like a great hockey trade to me.

I love all the overreactions in this thread. Hall may be an elite winger but a young, steady number-one blue-liner is rarity in this league. This is a trade Edmonton will see that they got equal value finally when they take the ice next season. Larsson is a stud.

You can can be pissed about value not being returned but ultimately this makes the Oilers a better team IMO. I can only imagine the lowball offers they were getting if they pulled the trigger on this so quickly. If your family is starving you're going to think about selling your engagement ring for groceries, and if there's only one grocery store in town you don't have much choice.
Thats good logic but you also don't chop off your arm to try fix your crippling leg
The little side story to this is Hall's surprise and chagrin at being traded just when things were looking up. He handled it like a champ, but you could tell he wasn't pleased. Winning cures a lot of that kind of ill but other guys looking to sign contracts in the future will keep this in mind.

Would you trade Kane for Seth Jones if you really needed a defenseman? Top winger for a young sooner-or-later no. 1 d. You can see why people would react negatively.

obviously it's painful, but if you need to get to the playoffs from way outside in the boondocks you'd rather have the leg to get you there.

maybe Chicago would do that if they had him for many years and were still at the bottom of the league.

wow one man has traded both Tyler and Taylor

IF Larrson turns into a top D men like some have suggest on these boards before he got traded (RH too) it turn out to be a deal that helped Edm take the next step, and they have a lot a great young Forward talent without Hall,

I dont watch Edm games so i dont know how Amazing Hall really is , so i cant comment how much of Ripping NJ did on Edm

IF Larrson doesn't turn into a Top D men , this could end up like JVR-Schenn Deal Leaf/Flyers made

and if that happens man HF boards will be fun to read

(by the way Edm im not wishing that Larrson doesnt become a top D man, just saying how HF can be )

Keep in mind. At this point in his career, Hedman was still budding and finding his game.

It takes a while for these players to mature and Larsson is a special player.

He was dicked around here by PDB, started to find his footing this past season and now he's traded.

Hopefully Shero gets a quality defenseman to fill that hole. Because our defense right now is infinitely worse and the Oilers got rid of one of their many, many forwards and added a quality defenseman that they needed desperately.

Everyone is over valuing Hall and everyone is massively undervaluing Larsson. Sorry.

Too bad the oilers still don't have one.

Larsson #4Dman ZERO offense, mediocre defense

Horrible trade for Edmonton. Hall is a PROVEN #1 winger. One of the top-3 or so wingers in the game.

I don't care what any Devil fan says, Larsson is not a legit #1 defenseman. I've seen more than enough of him being in my market to know that he's not a legit #1. He's a good top-4 guy that was used as a #1 because of terrible defensive depth. Was Rozsival a legit #1 with the Rangers? No, but he was used as one. Same thing. Larsson is a good #3-4 on a team with better defensive depth.

There's also nothing to suggest that he'll be the franchise defenseman that he was billed to be and worth giving up an ESTABLISHED franchise winger for.

No matter what way you cut it, this is a TERRIBLE trade for Edmonton. RNH or Eberle would have been a better deal for Edmonton and a lot closer in value.
