Just got home and heard the news. Everything is happening. I'm stunned. Big name players getting dealt. I don't know what to think. Good luck to Hall. I would have traded RNH instead though.

Keep in mind. At this point in his career, Hedman was still budding and finding his game.

It takes a while for these players to mature and Larsson is a special player.

He was dicked around here by PDB, started to find his footing this past season and now he's traded.

Hopefully Shero gets a quality defenseman to fill that hole. Because our defense right now is infinitely worse and the Oilers got rid of one of their many, many forwards and added a quality defenseman that they needed desperately.

Everyone is over valuing Hall and everyone is massively undervaluing Larsson. Sorry.

Hedman showed flashes of being a dominant #1 defenceman during his earlier years. Same goes for a guy like OEL.

Larsson hasn't done anything close of that sort, he looks more like an ideal #3 defensive defenseman type.

It's fun to watch people reach and try to justify this move. Yes, Adam Larsson has all the tools and the time to become a #1 defender but there are no guarantees. Right now he is a good young top 4 defensemen. Hall on the other hand right now, is a star top line forward aged 24. To me, it just makes no sense. I know it fills a need but surely you could have gone in a different direction.

Shattenkirk is better than Larsson now and could probably be for the rest of their careers, why not go full on out for him? you would have paid less than Hall.

This is an excellent trade from an Oiler POV. Thats not what the haters and trolls are harping on.

They are harping on the value. And they are right. Its short.

Larsson + 1st round pick (lottery protected) in 2017 would be fair value for Hall. We didnt get it. So what? Life goes on.

Its a trade i do except I hold out of another half baked prospect at least.

I love all the airmchair GMs over here that think the Devils fleeced the Oilers in this deal. Say whatever you want about Shero and Chiarelli, but we don't actually know what was offered by other teams for Hall, and what evaluations were made on Larsson.

Let's remember, Larsson was drafted the same year RNH was drafted, and I'm certain the Oiler scouting staff was high on Larsson at the draft and would have preferred taking him based on their needs for a top D man for the future. However, as it is in all businesses, you have to go with what is projected as a certainty, and perhaps RNH was that "guarantee" for EDM at the time. But, I'm certain they would have taken Larsson if they thought with their logic and not their hearts.

As a Devils fan, I think long term Edmonton wins on this deal. DMen of Larsson's type are tough to come by - especially with his team-first, calm, non-rockstar demeanor.

Remember, defensemen are supposed to DEFEND - and Larsson is that type of guy - he can defend and he is solid. Good move by EDM.

I think the only reason it was Hall for Larsson 1-1 is because Larsson wasn't available without a major overpayment. Chia did what he had to do even though a lot of people gets angry. Hall is a fantastic player and he was one of my favorite players on the Oilers but Larsson is to me one of the more underrated d-men in the league and on anew amazing contract. He has learned how to play in the NHL the right way, become good defensively first and then improve the offence. He will be Hedman light pretty soon. Also giving McDavid the puck will make sure his point total goes up a lot too.

Now sign Lucic and Demers and we will all of a sudden be a playoff contender.

Shattenkirk does good when he's sheltered. He's just not a top pairing type who can absorb huge minutes and tough assignments. Larsson is already doing that with Greene. I might rate Shattenkirk higher just because he's been in the league longer and is more established. There's always risk with young defensemen.

Edmonton's scouting staff was following Larsson for years and if they didn't have the number 1 pick would of chose Larsson.

They wanted him for years.

This is exactly it. Larsson wasn't for sale, and actually the Devils are facing possible trouble on the back end. He wasn't a spare part, and despite what a lot of people say, Hall was a spare part for us. He was an amazing player, a special player, but positionally we are overloaded at forward.

And of course I'm sure that RNH or Eberle don't get this deal done.

I am amused by the peanut gallery citicizing this deal for the Oilers. These are the same people that have told us for 2 years we would have to lose a deal in order to make the team better. So now that the Oil did exactly that we will get to see if you rocket scientists were right. Hopefully this will impove the team.

Chia has now officially screwed over both teams who drafted top 2 in the 2010 draft by trading the top 2 picks for a lot less than he should have gotten. He has now shafted his employers by getting rid of both Taylor and Tyler (though at least he addressed a need for Edmonton, and if I remember correctly Boston got rid Seguin for off ice issues, drinking and partying among them I believe).

The hilarity of being fleeced for the top 2 picks of the same draft.

It's not excellent at all. I'd take a team with no defense any day given that McDavid-Hall-Puljujarvi-Yakupov-Ryan Nugent Hopkins are on 1 PP line. 4 1st overalls and 1 3rd overall anyday over a questionable lateral move.

Even if Larsson adds to Edmonton's defensive value, it takes away too much from the offense that the trade doesn't make them better.

Hall+1st 2017+1st 2018 for Karlsson would really boost them.

I love all the overreactions in this thread. Hall may be an elite winger but a young, steady number-one blue-liner is rarity in this league. This is a trade Edmonton will see that they got equal value finally when they take the ice next season. Larsson is a stud.

Larsson isn't a stud and he'll likely never be a true number one. I'm guessing you haven't watched much of Larsson.

A second and a prospect are nothing. If adding that was a deal breaker for Shero, I'm glad chia decided to settle. U don't let the secondary pieces stop this trade from happening

I like Larsson a lot but Hall has shown potential of being close to a PPG producer, in fact he has before, that is hard to come by these days. Bold move to say the least.

The Oilers could've gotten way more for Hall, just a straight up one for one?

Thought they may have done more of a trade. More pieces. Should have shipped Eberle with him. Hopefully more to come, Hall was actually coming around and playing some defense, wasn't crazy about his attitude or his on ice posture at times. I think this could have been, start playing some hockey or your GONE!

Nah all the rangers fans who have "seen a lot of hall" say we ripped off Edmonton.

Funny that only Devils fans seem to be the only ones talking the oil fans off the ledge.

I'm going to have a brain auerisum the next time I see someone compare Larsson to Hedman.

Hedman is a LEGIT stud #1 Larsson is a #4 with #2 POTENTIAL.

They have nothing in common besides nationality...
