It is pretty obvious, that this year it is a two horse race. These 2 players are to good to slow down significantly. They are at 1,70 point per game. I think both stay around 1,70

For McDavid to catch up to 1,70 he has to go almost 2 points / game the last 39 games.
It is possible, but I think this year he wants to win the cup more than anything else and he is not gonna give it a run if he gets closer.

I actually think it’s the opposite.
Mackinnon’s pace without Kadri is a lot better than when the Avs had him (1.62 to 1.35) Of course it’s better for the team to have more depth but individually (especially for these top guys) I think they benefit from less depth just because they’re leaned on to do more.

Pretty sure this is case for Kuch as well but feel free to correct me if that’s not the case
Hahaha, yes. Unless second line´s goals are somehow credited to MacK, even when he is on bench, i dont see him really benefitting from it on personal level. Whole team would/should, but what the other lines do, does affect him only indirectly (gaining offensive zone, winning penalties).

Not long ago Kucherov had games in hand. Now MacKinnon with the two point lead, and the game in hand on him. Actually, they have the same games remaining. NHL.com had updated MacKinnon's stats and games played, but not the Avalanche games played. Should have known better than to trust that site.

Still a virtual dead heat and a lot of games left though. Hope they all stay healthy, including McDavid.

Is it possible we're seeing a bit of a 4 minute mile effect this season? Everybody saw McDavid hit 150 last year and realized that for one it's possible, and secondly, that if they want to be able to compete with him they have to be at that level themselves. If Mackinnon keeps this up and hits 140 it would be crazy.

Yes I agree with that. When you have to be the guy you get more opportunities. I always argued against the "McDavid would have xx more points if he played on a good team" narrative.

Definitely applies to Kucherov this year too. For the first time in his career he's basically staying out for whole PPs rather than changing after a minute. Those extra opportunities turn into points.

MacKinnon has 26 goals and 47 assists for 73 points in his past 38 games (1.921 PPG).

If he plays at his pace from last season for the remaining 34 games (1.563 PPG), he’ll finish with 135 points.
And with that his HHOF ticket will be ensured....heck it already is.
