Mack is obviously a superstar. And would be deserving of the Hart and Art Ross

He is more talented than Kuch. That I am sure of...but there isn't a more cerebral player in the NHL than Kucherov. There just isn't. He is 4 moves ahead of everyone else. Bad temper for sure but watching him is a joy.

Kucherov and MacKinnon are putting on a show.
Way ahead of everyone else at the moment.

McDavid is saving his production for the playoffs rather than the regular season... Smart! The opposite leafs strategy

I guess it depends on your definition of talent. Mack obviously has physical attributes that Kuch can't match. But I would call Kuch's IQ a talent in itself. I also think Kuch has some of the best hands in the game. He sees the game in a different way but he also has the hands to pull it off.

I was fortunate to be at the game tonight and see Kuch make some plays near his own vantage point. He makes passes where there is no opening and yet an opening emerges as the puck arrives and goes through. If someone didn't know him they would call it dumb luck, but he does it over and over again, game after game.

I meant physical talent...hence my comments

That’s you when McDavid pulls off the late season comeback.

That’s Video Nasty

For McDavid to come back either of the two things must happen:

- he gets on a completely unprecedented pace like 3-4 points per game
- Kucherov and MacKinnon get injured or catch an extremely prolonged cold streak

If Kucherov cools down and scores at a 1.3 ppg clip for the rest of the way he'll finish with 126 points.
If McDavid continues at 1.7 ppg (he's at 1.75 since Nov 13th) he'll finish at 130 points.

Will both Kucherov and MacKinnon cool down significantly? We'll have to wait and see.
Also, tough to predict whether McDavid will crank it up to 1.9+ ppg. Unlikely as Edmonton will have a really tight schedule after the AS break.
MacKinnon has 75 points in his last 39 games for 1.92 ppg, but he's averaging 23:25 TOI per game, how long will he endure that kind of load?

I predict Mack to win his first ART this season.

Edit: Hadn't noticed McDavid was awarded an assist on the Hyman goal, adjusted the hypothetical total to 130 points.

McDavid has factored in on Edmonton’s last 7 goals.

Still has 4 games in hand on MacKinnon and Kucherov.

He’s that one player who can conceivably close that kind of a gap in so few games.

Oh yeah and for good measure, he just passed Orr on the all-time scoring list in 45 fewer games, something no one thought possible back in 2016.

I don't think McDavid can come back at this point but he's like Jaws, whether you can see him coming or not you better keep swimming because before you know it he might be right behind you.

Mack and Kuch are scoring at elite pace, not far from peak McDavid. For perspective, though, 31 years ago Pat LaFontaine and Adam Oates were scoring at very similar pace, LaFontaine had 86 points in 49 games (Mack at 84 in 49 rn). Just like this season, the player considered the best in the world was within ~20 points. It's just that the player, Mario Lemieux, was actually leading instead of trailing, with 18 more points in 9 fewer games. Incredible. Link.

Not really although I don't know if he will catch them but the Oilers have 4 games in hand on both the Avs and Lightning and this is how they stack up right now.

Mack 84
Kuch 83
McDavid 67

So when he plays those 4 games he might be at 75 points or so and then the gap doesn't look so big.

He is definitely climbing up the Art ross race and the hart race as well.

7 points in the last 2 games playing with Draisaitl.... I wouldn't count out McD just yet. And he is known for being even better in the second half of the season.
