Suzuki is much more offensive than Koivu ever was.

Nick Suzuki will have a Marcel Dionne like career.

Koivu was more injury prone but not sure Suzuki is at a level where you can actually say that with certainty.

During the dead puck era from 97-04, Koivu was producing at a 67pts/82game pace (297 points in 365 games). Scoring is way up now, back then there was usually only about 10 players who got 80+ point in a season. Just last season, there was 34 players with 80+ points.

Koivu was a much better offensive talent. Imagine Koivu with Caufield instead or Michael Ryder lol

Having a few drinks at the pub today I see. Dionne had 1700 points in like 1300 games roughly. He may be the best player ever to never win a cup. He was near generational. Love Suzi but he ain’t that and hopefully he wins a cup unlike Dionne

Happy for Suzuki, he's definitely ready!! I hope he has a long and successful tenure as captain!

On the other hand, the jersey ad... It sucks, but if it stays that size and only 1 ad per jersey I think I can get use to it.

Too early to say.
And when it comes to say he will have similar career as Marcel Dionne, woo man, wooo* !!
To say he will be similar to Koivu I could agree but time will tell.

Fine choice and congrats to Nick.

Pretty much expected.

There may have been other candidates, but Nick is obviously in the longterm plans of the team unlike some others...

Great selection. No hesitation, he was the guy.

As to Koivu, what he needed was a 6 foot 2 , 210 pound skill player that could and would also go into the corners and get the puck out, so that Saku and his smallish frame didn't get the shit beaten out of him every single game as he was the main guy that did that on his line. Unfortunately Koivu never had a GM that fulfilled that need.

so they waited for the jersey RBC announcement to announce Suzuki as the Captain so they can have a photoshoot with the Captain wearing the Jersey with the RBC logo.

Pathetic

Just pure garbage... insulting specially after we just came out from the biggest political bullying in history. On top of that its A BANK that is sponsoring it.

just awful

Nick is a little young for the job but when was the last time the team was in such a rebuild? He will have to grow into it with the rest of the team but I think he'll do fine.

He has the pedigree for this team. He was Captain at Owen Sound. He’s been an assistant a few times. It’s obvious he has leadership abilities. With Price away, he’s probably the best player too.

I can’t recall a recent captain let alone player being so active around Mtl in the offseason. He was the obvious choice and I think he’ll thrive.

On a side note, Im of asian descent and have a couple of nieces/nephews in minor hockey. They really look up to Nick and will be stoked on this.

Should have named Carey captain for a day first, 31 as the 31st captain. Either way this feels like the first real captain we've had since Koivu. Everyone knew Subban was the players' choice, which has now been leaked by multiple members of the team since then, while Patches was managements' choice. Gionta and Weber were always stopgaps. I'm just worried the team has always been trying to avoid displacing the past of the team, so are we going to trade Nick at the end of his contract so he can't pass Beliveau as longest-tenured captain?

2 questions?

1. What is the biggest political bullying in history you speak of?

2. You understand Canadian banks are very different from our American Counterparts right?
