My choice was Drouin but oh well, I guess that Nick will have to do.

Solid Choice, will be a long term fixture for the franchise and he is everything you want in a young captain. He’s smart, confident, humble and a natural leader.

He’s going to be an A1 mentor for our young prospects coming up to show them how it’s done.

Good choice. I hope he won't fall under pressure like Patches.

The kid oozes potential and will grow with the rest of the team. 60 points on this team this year is nothing short of a miracle, but we can all see growth and I wouldn't put 80-90 points past him in his prime a couple of years down the road.

But even if he never reaches those heights, one thing is for sure. Nick is clutch and our best playoffs performer the last 2 times when we made the playoffs. He did it when he won his Memorial Cup too. He raises his level of play when the chips are down and that is what you want from your leader and Captain.

There is a lot of pressure associated with this job but it's not all on him, let's cheer him on to bring back the cup where it belongs. I'm hype. Go Habs Go!

Yeah I just edited my post. Weber was the obvious choice but... there was something rotten about those teams... anyways, it's just a subjective thing on my part :)
Was he though? It didn't feel like he should have gotten the C to me. It felt forced. Just because you were the captain elsewhere don't mean you should be the next one here.
It never felt like the Habs were Weber's team to lead. There was always the talk of his presence being huge but it didn't feel that way.
I could see Gallagher, or Price, even Markov...but not Weber.

For Suzuki, it makes sense. Becoming the Habs best forward, plays smart, leads with his play and has a lot of potential to grow further.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Players raved about Weber as their leader. Same with Price. No a surprise the team collapse once they were gone and under Ducharme.

When it comes down to it I think Suzuki was the clear choice. This team is heading in a new direction where lots of youth will be injected in the next year or two. These young players need a leader to follow and I think having a 23 year old Suzuki lead a core around his own age is better than an aging Gallagher. They'll more easily identify with him and have a stronger connection. It's also desirable that as a 2017 drafted, he's still older than all of them. He'll definitely have to grow into the role which may take a few years but they fortunately have time.

For me, this captaincy is the best for a while relative to the team being lead going forward

Paul Kariya?

Is Suzuki also the first NHL captain of Asian descent?
Historical day if so.

In Habs history, it is a historical day.

I'd still like to get a top 5 talent at this year's draft.

Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, and Slaf are good building blocks. Let's add another star to them.

I’m hoping that “C” will result in him getting tossed on the draw far less often than we’ve seen in his career so far!

Should have named Carey captain for a day first, 31 as the 31st captain. Either way this feels like the first real captain we've had since Koivu. Everyone knew Subban was the players' choice, which has now been leaked by multiple members of the team since then, while Patches was managements' choice. Gionta and Weber were always stopgaps. I'm just worried the team has always been trying to avoid displacing the past of the team, so are we going to trade Nick at the end of his contract so he can't pass Beliveau as longest-tenured captain?

Goalies are not allowed to be captains.

Not sure why, but I remember the Canucks and the league getting into it when they wanted luongo to be their captain.

He had to resort to painting a C on the mask because the league wouldn't recognize it.

I've only known Koivu, Gionta, MaxPac and Weber as Captain,

and I'll say Suzuki is already my favorite. Very happy for the kid. The future looks bright!

What? The kid hasn't even played a single game as captain and you have him over freaking Koivu? People really tend to forget what Koivu did for the Habs and the city of Montreal as a whole huh?

I agree. Always felt like Weber just was even though it didn’t make much sense.

I’m not a super fan of this move although I think from a player attribute Nick checks all the boxes, but I would have rather have him another year of development without the distractions. I still think Eddy is the move with the least downside and that’s who I would have gone with here.
