I forgot about Kariya, I was a kid when he played.

Great choice. He reminds me a lot of Koivu. Both are highly competitive, yet are quiet, composed and even keeled.

For those worried about it being too early for Suzuki to have the C. It's a young person's world now. With Eddy and Gally as his A's. I'm looking forward to seeing Suzuki grow both as a player, and a leader.
Suzuki is much more offensive than Koivu ever was.

Nick Suzuki will have a Marcel Dionne like career.

He may end up being that, but Koivu was a very good offensive player, especially before he started wearing down due to injury problems. Koivu's issue was that he could never stay healthy, in his 13 seasons with the Habs, he only played 70+ games in 5 of them.

Nick and Cole will be on Julie Snyder's talk show tonight.

Fail. They should have been broadcasting from a choice remote location, like those bland corridor-like passages that RBC (and other financial institutions) use for their ATMs.

Suzuki has never missed one in 3 years. That is impressive given the 2 years of Covid

And the fact that he was the only player on the team last season to play in every game (and one of 3 to play in over 70 or one of 10 to play in over 60).

Great guy great player but never struck me as captain. Another case of “he gets points so he’s captain”. I always felt he would perform better on the ice if he was under the radar a bit. I’m not around the team so obviously they know better than I do but yeah. Just my opinion. This team doesn’t have a captain. The team has more to prove. I don’t see the rush

Wow that’s hard hitting. What else would he say lol

I had no idea that qualifies as captain. Obviously you don’t choose someone who ALWAYS hurt like Gallagher though

Eh, I am pleased with the choice. Figured it was going to Be Gally based on his time with the team, but an A suites him fine. Nick is the future and getting as far away as possible from the former management group mentality is good .... biceps will be missed but I'll get over it.

Congrats Nick, well deserved. Also just cause he's the C, he's young and will make mistakes. let him make mistakes and grow. Who would have known that the Patches trade would have ended up this way... wild stuff I tell ya!

By definition you should go with experience. So tired of players being chosen based off how many points they get

Does that even matter?
I don't think that was the reason he was chosen. Being a captain in Montreal is a lot more stressful than say less popular hockey markets. I'd be quite surprised if HuGo and MSL picked Suzuki. Without feeling he's a strong enough person to handle the added pressure.

He's been a leader everywhere he's gone. He was captain at Owen Sound and when he was traded to Guelph, he was quickly made part of their rotating Assistants.

Also, there is no under the radar with Nick. He's become the team's 1C and is currently the highest paid player on the team (aside from Carey). So he was never going to be under the radar.

Thank god it's not Gallagher
The one guy that actually earned it haha yeah thank god right? Breaks bones and is the hardest worker on the team for what a decade now? Now he’s too injury prone and likely will be bought out in a couple of years but I don’t understand the hate

There’s playing on the top line but then there’s being captain of the most ruthless media in fan base in hockey. Totally different. I think he could do it one day but not during the dark days coming for this franchise. Just an opinion though

With the team going in the direction they're going with the rebuild and getting younger, Suzuki is the right choice to lead that youth movement.

Also, you're underselling Nick's ability to be able to do this.

You’re probably right but it’s just an opinion. To me he seems green but I’m not in the locker room either so
