Mens against boys .. men always win

I didn't get to see the game last night. How did he look?
I think he looks good personally. I think that line has been hemmed in a bit more than they should, but in all honesty I think he is only a small part of that. JT is still making some questionable decisions with the puck on his stick in his own half of the ice.

I will say, Robertson can get a bit lost in his own end from time to time, which leads to some extended play in his own end. His defensive anticipation just isn't as rounded as his offensive anticipation at this point. You can see what I mean on the Soucy goal from last night. He kind of gets lost in the shuffle after attempting to "block" Soucy's original shot. It was a lucky bounce that put that puck back onto Soucy's blade for the rebound, but Nick was just kind of irrelevant in that entire play. If he's reading that play a bit better, I think that initial attempt at net doesn't even get past him. But that's just going to come with time IMO.

All n all, I know the points haven't come since his promotion to the top 6, but he looks good IMO. I also think Kerf on the 4th line has exponentially improved the 4th line, so it's kind of double serving having Nick up the lineup.

I've been really happy with Nick for the most part. This is a kid we cannot afford to move IMO. We need the cheap ELC the next 2 years, and this kid clearly has the skill to play in the top 6 already. Not to mention he's only going to get better. He's not exactly been able to play alot of hockey in recent years, so the fact that he is able to keep up in a top 6 role in the NHL and not look out of place is remarkable IMO.

How many years ago was that?
I think you'll find very few players built like Hull anymore.

It was back when a lot of players were farmers and such. You'll see similar pictures of Gordie Howe and others.

Funny thing is people will talk about older players as out of shape smokers and such. They could also lift a Buick. Obviously they didn't have the same type of training you get today but they were beasts. Tim Horton, for instance, probably had a wider neck than McDavid does a chest. Rather than fight he would literally bear hug people into submission.

Lol, sorry no I'm familiar with the Hull picture. I was referring to the scrawny Marner picture, he has filled out quite a bit since then.

No idea when the Marner picture was. Was looking for a McDavid one with no luck but that one popped up.

Robertson needs to be traded before Keefe destroys him. A top 6 type player getting 9 min per is wrong.
Lilly, Sandin, are failing and Keefe has failed to develop any others. AM, Marner Nylander got Babcock help in professionalism.

I really like Nick's shot, and his offensive play. But in the defensive zone I feel like he chases too much and gets out of position, leading to holes.

Obviously still a young player and like other people have critiqued, I think sometimes he needs to slow down and let the game come to him. Read the play instead of always chasing.

He's got a great motor and I think can be a really solid addition if put in a position to succeed. Which must include PP time.

Not an NHL player at this Time and perhaps not ever. He has a great Shot and good speed but lacks all the other nhl skills. Hope we trade him before he confirms he is not a NHL player.
For me, I think he has the drive and the potential to gain more NHL skills and become a much better player, but he has to remain healthy. I sometimes get Soshnikov vibes from him and the way he plays.

Unfortunately Bill, "Babcock" and "professionalism" is an oxymoron because Babcock quite frankly was a moron when it came to dealing with players.

Sometimes I think he tries too hard. For example, he's got a great shot, but too often he fires it into the glass (did it three times last game). Once he settles down, those shots should be on net and we'll have quite a player on our hands. No way we should be giving up on this guy.

Really? I think he does more to help this team than either Simmonds or Spezza. He looked very good for the first half of the game against the Coyotes and has missed out on a few points by hitting posts and having both Willy and JT flub tap-ins he gave them a few games ago. He's certainly not a world beater yet but he's extremely young and has too much talent to give up on.

I will put my eye test on many planes up against anyone, hockey, tennis, u name it...This kid has "it". Only thing that might try to stop him, is the injury bug.

My eye tells me he could help any line any time. From what I have seen in his latest two games, is that he didn't make one single mistake, and did something significant on almost every shift.

This coming from a guy, myself, who up till this latest eye test, was dubious. I have no doubt about him now.

I don't know what some of you are seeing out there. I saw Ryan O'Reilly play once live and I said he should be a top three or four pick. First round etc...Saw Schenn play one game, said he was not a top six dman. I got a thousand eggs thrown at me.

I am not a stats guy at all. Working on that.

And look at the dna link to Jason. Jason is about to go cha ching with Dallas.

By the way, the outdoor game today? Holy cow, those guys are going to play in some good ole Canadian nasty out there. Should get a fight or two, cause of surliness alone.

And which players eventually succeeded? Getting young stars to learn is hard. Keefe has not been successful.

Take the 32 teams today and condensed that down to just 6 teams of the best players in the NHL today and you would create super teams just for context of what it was like back then.

Every team might have a dozen Hockey Hall of famers on them.

Toronto's 1967 team that beat Montreal would be the equivalent of Canada playing USA in the Olympics where each country sent their best.

The more teams the more watered down the League becomes.
It’s a worldwide game now, instead of having Billybob from stayner or Henri from rouyn filling out the bottom lines the league has the worlds best coming in to play as well.
Average nhl’ers today would dominate back then, the games played at a much higher level now.

Machiavelli once said “the end doesn’t justify the means” (or was it Tedder Keon who said that lol). But seriously, his methods really were unethical.

Imho he did a good job of this when he was with the marlies for sure. Maybe not as good in the nhl I suppose but his job is to win and Moore’s job is to develop. I understand that Keefe has to get the most out of his players and putting them in a position to succeed is part of that of course.

54 yrs....I don't care. Punch was unethical to some, ask Keon, ask Walton, ask Big M,
4 Stanley's.
I would like another.

He'll be back in the lineup. Just throwing respect to the vets for the heritage classic.

A player who can shoot and finish checks. We definitely lack the latter trait. No way he's going to sit for both of those guys. If he does I hope the Keefe era is over soon.

He better be in the lineup tuesday against his brother - would be a mike babcock savage level thing to do to sit him out
