In a 6 team league, just for context.

Take the 32 teams today and condensed that down to just 6 teams of the best players in the NHL today and you would create super teams just for context of what it was like back then.

Every team might have a dozen Hockey Hall of famers on them.

Toronto's 1967 team that beat Montreal would be the equivalent of Canada playing USA in the Olympics where each country sent their best.

The more teams the more watered down the League becomes.

And how many players from that six team league came from Finland, Sweden, Russia, Switzerland, Germany and Kuwait?

I watched the six team NHL live, it was terrible, there were one or two guys per team that could skate.

Sure, skates were terrible back then, but apart from Keon, Pulford, Mahovlich, Horton and Kelly, none of those guys could skate.

Hockey was fun to watch back then, because the players came from tough backgrounds. Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan, cowboy tough people.

We are watching basically rich kids/ballerina's now.

Way more refined talents, but soft compared to the characters that used to play in the league,

Its just so different now, there isn't much basis for a comparison.

Its like comparing ballerinas to MMA fighters.

At times Keefe seems to think he's Nick Nurse and just experiments wildly and scraps the project just as soon as the thought came to him. Galaxy braining way too much at times.
someone tell keefe he can do w.e tf he wants like nurse once he delivers a chip and/or achieves post season success with unlikely players. Smh.

I've learned so much about Robertson from this post. Thank you

After older brother Jason's back-to-back hat tricks I decided to do a deeper dive to see where Nick is in his development in relation to his brother. We know from interviews they are competitive with each other

(Jason is 6'03, Nick is 5'09) might as well get that out of the way...

Jason (D year) : 1.19 PPG (OHL)
Nick (D year) : 1.02 PPG (OHL)

Jason (D +1) : 1.28 PPG (OHL)
Nick (D +1) : 1.87 PPG (OHL)

Jason (D +2) : 1.89 PPG (OHL)
Nick (D +2) : 0.76 PPG (AHL)

Jason (D +3) : 0.78 PPG (AHL)
Nick (D +3) : 0.89 PPG (AHL) -> currently ongoing

Jason (D +4) : 0.88 PPG (NHL)
Nick (D +4) : ?

Jason (D +5) : 1.15 PPG (NHL) -> currently ongoing
Nick (D +5) : ?

Really like his games. Plays fast and has added hustle to boot. Also had some really nice playmaking ability as well. I know Dubas bet his career on this core (3/5th of it looks good), but I hope he doesn't make a short sighted trade that includes Robertson for a last ditch effort at playoff success.

Really should be given a good look at with consistency. Already created more chances then tavares and willy in limited minutes. A lot of young player are coming in the leauge and are ready for top 6 role and are producing. Keefe needs to trust him and play him to see what they actually have in him.

He has looked better than I thought he would on the second line.

But he over-pursued on the first CBJ goal. Small defensive lapses which can hurt in a game and he needs to clean up. That's a common problem with most rookies but will hurt his ice time as games become more competitive.

He played aggressive today. Really like the way he can create rush chances with Willie. Maybe it is bc of the last two playoffs, but I think having guys who can create and finish rush chances will be key to Leafs playoffs success.

All the old guys would use their skill but they would give it right back as soon as you crossed the line.

Play your game, but don’t let anybody push you around - a mentality that’s been eradicated in this part of the world.

Going back to Gordie who would outright f*** you up, through Bobby who was also a mean bastard, the Broad Street Bullies and even into the 90’s guys like Bure, Forsberg, Roenick, Bourque, Modano, Teemu, Jumbo and many more were all low key tough and willing to play dirty and more guys would drop them.

Ovi hits like a truck and Sid chopped off a guys finger, even Nate will drop them, and Kucherov and Malkin? They aren’t squeaky clean.

McDavid has clearly had enough with all the shit, and Drai is going to school to become a veterinarian (which is 100% wrong but if he only did it once and not like four times I could get).

Matthews and Mitch will score from the dirty areas and play in the corners, but they both need to get nasty.

Love what I am seeing from this kid. No doubt he is a top 6 forward. Makes the 2nd line better without a doubt, and seems to be responsible defensively. Really hope we keep him so we can get a full season of him next season.. on the 2nd (or 1st?) line.

No problem for me slotting in Kerfoot in critical moments, Keefe trusts Kerf and he is execllent defensively. Robertson will get his full icetime in due time, but things look positive.

Yes and the second line looks a lot better without Kerfoot

Kerfoot doesnt fit on this team, Robertson has replaced him easily and added to that line. Robertson has puck hunger, great shot, iq and compete level. Robertson also doesnt mind battling along the wall and down low, this meshes well with Tavares who is beside him working to get pucks loose. Robertson also can keep up with Nylander if a quick transition happens like the goal he scored from Nylander. With that being said, he can be a bridge that binds them all together because Nylander is not a trustworthy linemate for Tavares. In the next 3 games or less , when Nylander shows up fully engaged the potential of that line will be seen when they all get 3 or 4 points.

This actually describes a lot of what Kerfoot brings to that line, except Kerfoot is more of a playmaker than a shooter and is much better in his own end than Robertson.

The thing is, if Robertson can stick on that 2nd line, Kerfoot is versatile enough to go pretty much anywhere; which includes that 4th line with Spezza and Kase.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev
Kerfoot - Spezza - Kase
Simmonds

I don't see why that forward group can't do some damage and you can't shove 4 lines down the other team's throat. 2/3's of that 4th line consist of middle 6 caliber players, and Kerfoot/Kase are more than good enough defensively to cover for Spezza's lack of defensive ability.

I’m not getting attached to him, as I feel he will be gone in any package we put together to improve by the deadline….

But I’ve been pulling for him and am enjoying seeing him on the 2nd line. He’s a good kid.
