The kid is 21 and has played extremely little hockey the last few years. As you indicated his trade value cannot be great at the moment so there really is zero upside to trading him. He need to play hockey. His skating is perfectly fine, his defensive game/hockey sense needs refinement (again he hasn’t played enough), but yes his biggest issue is strength. Hopefully he’s having a good summer but I don’t expect him to get there in one offseason.

In any case there’s no reason to be writing him off right now, even if I can understand some optimism about his ceiling being snuffed somewhat.
I was optimistic when he was in junior, but his games in the NHL really, really muffled the optimism.

His skating would be "fine" if he were 6'2. But he doesn't have anything better than average straight line speed, acceleration, or edge work. As a smaller player, he really needs a skating advantage relative to other NHLers. He's weak on his skates too and falls down too much. He seems too reliant on others to get him the puck in scoring opportunities.

He's got one year left on his ELC and will really need a huge developmental year to be on an NHL-regular track.

His bro is almost 6ft3 and plays with an edge .. big difference on da wall
Jason isn’t really a power forward. He’s not getting his points off the wall. It’s his hockey sense, great shot and instincts that set him apart.
That said: Dallas Robertson is a hart trophy candidate. I’d be happy if Toronto Robertson turns into a productive, defensively okay second line winger. His career has been pretty derailed thus far.

His brother isn’t the fastest or most agile guy either. He just has a gifted hockey sense and some good tools. N Rob has untapped potential.
I do agree that Nick has the upside to be a quality NHLer, if he can stay healthy and keep improving, but there’s a HUGE difference between 5’9” and 6’3”.

Nick’s main issue so far at the NHL level is that he’s small, his speed/agility isn't special (while it is for most small NHLers), and he’s not very strong on his skates, so he just gets pushed around/clobbered a lot. Jason is by no means a powerforward, more of a big finesse guy, but at 6’3” he can naturally protect the puck and absorb physicality way better than his 5’9” brother.

Jason and Nick both have elite shots, but I otherwise don’t see a tonne of similarities in their games.

Nick's issue isn't that he's small, it's that he plays reckless FOR his size.

I've seen him get crunch plenty of times, and he simply cannot play that way at his size.

IN saying that, he's got way too much talent and is still very young, gotta keep him around.

I've kinda lost hope on him, might do well in Russia or Europe but NHL seems questionable.

Still think his stick is way too loo.

Jason Robertson also does damage around the net because he's hard to move.

I hope he makes it but I don't expect he will .. too 1 dimensional .. i like his TRY HARD attitude though and it could rub off on others

Even if he weren't the glass man, and he is.

Where would he play? He's not a fit on the 4th line and he's not as good as anybody in the top 3 lines.

I’m guessing your team top 9 has Kampf in it, which is likely reasonable. This said, the man much as I like him, is a 4th liner through and is through. There’s one spot that should be up for grabs. I think Kampf should line up regularly on 4, but get extra time for defensive spot duty

Robertson obviously needs to have a really good camp and earning a spot

Kampf is a center, Robertson is a winger
