Well, at least we don't have to worry about whether or not the team will come together later in the season. lol Castle wasn't going to play another game for the Dogs anyway so onward and upward. I actually don't mind what he has done over the last few weeks. Brought in a coach that seams to have the kids playing competitively and have brought in some kids that haven't been exposed to the gong show of the last year and a half. We might have something to sell the high draft picks we get this year: two top 5 players this year; a top 4 player next year and a Memorial Cup bid in 2026 or whenever it visits Ontario after 2024.

I really hope you are right. Two top 5 picks don‘t necessarily translate into two top five players. Niagara doesn’t have the luxury of using the defected player trade rule Next season becuase of Dickinson this season. They will need to ensure both players drafted report.

Forgot to mention, along with the top 4 player next year we also have 3 second round picks. If players report, we should be in good shape for 2024 and beyond.

Just a couple of notes on the players you're getting...

Ride is a big kid (6'6 200) who is developing a bit of a mean streak. He's not going to run anyone through the boards but has started to use his size and will get in your face if you anger him or his teammates enough. Don't expect much offence, just five points this season. Hopefully he can put it all together with NIA.

O'Flaherty is a strange case. 6'1 185. He was a scorer in his draft season, something like 44G in 46 games, but has been more of a power forward with Wsr. He has 11pts in 33 games this season, showing he can score when given a shot, but he's more the guy who will stand up for teammates with everything he has. A few players passed him on the depth charts in Windsor so he was stuck in the bottom six.

Suppose I’ll grab one of the free lineup sheets on my way in this evening.
Numbers keep changing like lottery balls.
See all you IceDogs fans tonight.

LOL. Well…. Maybe he’ll draft a dead person too then!
I believe that only happens in the city of Ottawa.......

Senators
The Ottawa Senators selecting ineligible players at their expansion draft comes immediately to mind. Not once, mind you, not twice, but three times then-Senators GM Mel Bridgman stepped to the microphone at a downtown Montreal hotel to claim this or that player. Three times he was rebuked by then NHL vice-president Brian O’Neill, his irritation rising with each iteration.

“Ottawa apologizes,” a sheepish Bridgman finally blurted into the microphone.

and Renegades
Serious mistake: Derrell Robertson, a 1980s defensive end at Mississippi State, died after an auto accident last year.
But word of his death never reached the Ottawa Rough Riders, who picked him in the fourth round of the Canadian Football League’s recent dispersal draft of players from the defunct Las Vegas Posse.

Although he had been dead for months, his name was never removed from the draft list.

“I don’t know how it happened,” Ottawa Coach Jim Gilstrap told the Ottawa Sun.

“The league didn’t know until we told them. And we didn’t know until a week ago, when we couldn’t find him.”

I am happy for the 67s that their present management/coaching is not following the Senators/Renegades example!

Both franchises were a shit show. The Senators are turning it around a bit. The Renegades are now gone. The RedBlacks are now here. OSEG, the same group that operates the 67’s operates the RedBlacks. I have my reservations about OSEG bit not their Sports Management team. They’ve been relatively good to date.

Montreal Alouettes also drafted a dead guy in 1994...it just sounds so wrong just saying it...lol

They will have 2 picks in the top, plus 3 2nd round picks. They can easily rebuild. Or if good pieces returning, then trade those picks above for present 04/05 stars and compete right away.

Trading those picks for 04/05 players and competing right away sounds like a great strategy. I wonder if they have done that at some point in the past? :fight:

Ya wasn't hard to do.

Yes if you had a general manager that's knows what he is doing.
I would agree...we should have received more draft picks but we did fill a need...size. We had a small team and teams knocked us off the puck all the time. We need some players to protect the 16 year olds coming in next year.

I think we are done with cards so Jesus, Keane and Ribau or any combination of these guys will be traded for picks. We might have 1 card left

Ottawa scored four of five second period goals to beat the Icedogs 4 to 1. The first and third period no goals. Shots 32 27 for Ottawa. 4,520 fans watched the game at the Meridian Centre. Michaud the only goal for the dogs tonight they also missed a penalty shot. Next game for the Dogs tomorrow night in Barrie.

Can any Niagara fans give their view on Dionicio? I watched him last night, it was a horrible game with all sorts of giveaways but it was just his first game with a new team, so it's hard to be hard on the guy after one game with no practice with his new team. Thanks.

I can tell you scouts have some interest in him if he can find a way to put it all together. He's one of those all the tools, without the toolbox sort of players.
