NHL.TV / Center Ice / ESPN+ Discussion - Part IV [See the warning in OP]

Sportsnet's video player in their iPadOS app seems improved this year. I was watching a Leafs preseason game and was able to stop it, and they finally have a Resume button...didn't have to start over completely. And they added a Skip Forward +30 button, never thought I'd see the day. :) Haven't tried their Apple TV app yet, hoping for similar improvements.

From what I can tell, Apple tv has similar controls except the 30 second skip. Can only scrub forward and back. But I can do vocal commands to skip any amount of time using the siri remote voice interface

It is unbelievable to me that the NHL has botched the messaging on who owns the broadcasting rights this season. I just called them to ask about the gameday audio portion of the app (If I was in the car and wanted to listen to a game while driving, where would I go) and the guy seemed dumbfounded by the question. He said you needed a paid subscription and in the US it's all going through ESPN. Last I checked, ESPN didn't have the radio rights, just the tv rights. Basically what I was told was if I wanted to listen to Hockey this season and didn't have something like Tunein or Sirius, I'm out of luck. Granted I will probably watch more than I listen on the radio, but if I'm out for a walk, or at the gym, or away from the TV and want to listen to a game, it's hard for me to do that. I guess I do have to resubscribe to Sirius.

I've discovered that the ESPN app's features will vary depending on which device you're using. As for hiding scores, I can do that with the ESPN app that's loaded on my Roku, but I don't have that option with the ESPN app on my Samsung (Android) tablet nor is there a "hide scores" option when I access ESPN+ via their website.
I suspect this would be a simple feature to add to all versions of the ESPN app, since it already exists for Roku users.
Added: I just chatted with an ESPN rep about the need for the "hide scores" option in their app for use on all devices.

Thanks for responding... Can I ask the format/medium you used to chat with an ESPN Rep? I may try to do the same...

I don't know. Probably will have to file a dispute with either Paypal or the CC company. But my profile shows now that I have a running subscription until June 30 2022.
It’s back working for me today. I guess enough people complained.

The hide scores feature on Roku keeps giving away the scores . The white box score comes up . Sometimes it works and hides the scores , other times ( like tonight ) it doesn’t work . Thinking of trying Apple TV .

The discussion in this thread has been very confusing to me, so sorry if I'm asking questions that have already been answered.

I've subscribed to NHL TV for years now, both in Poland and in Russia. Do I understand correctly that this is no longer an option? I tried to watch a preseason game (from Cyprus) and NHL TV has redirected me to an ESPN site and then I got the screen saying that the site doesn't exist. I'm starting getting concerned as the regular season is approaching. How do I watch the games?

On a PC, go to ESPN.com and look for the link to ESPN+. Hover your mouse on the ESPN+ link, which will open a drop down box. At the bottom of the box is a link for Support & FAQs. Open it, and at the bottom is are two link boxes for Chat or Call Us. Good luck.

EDIT: So I chatted with ESPN+ support... apparently you cannot use a VPN with ESPN+. That really f***ing sucks

EDIT 2: Okay I tried ExpressVPN and it works. Unfortunately it does not work with TorGuard VPN so that was a waste of money

I am trying to watch games on ESPN+ using my browser. But every time I get to the player it's just a black screen with a spinning wheel. Has anybody else experienced this? I've tried everything - disabling adblocker, clearing cache, safari and chrome, etc.

I just want to be able to watch hockey

Seems to be different depending on the country, I'm in Hong Kong and NHL app still works for me, although it didn't for past few days because of glitch in their system auto-renewing subscribers, but was back working today. Lots of stories above and in other threads about how ESPN+ has taken over in many countries, and doesn't seem to have as clear a process for viewing games. Maybe someone in an ESPN+ country could highlight the simple steps.

ESPN+ on Appletv has been A+ for me. Love how you can do the 3 way, or even 4 way split screen, easily switch to each feed for audio, or click once and bring the feed into full screen focus. One menu click away, and you're back to the 4 way split. Only con I see right now is the annoying commercial filler.

Interesting development for me, I live in Colorado, but the modem my ISP gave me has an IP Address located in Fishers, Indiana, so I can watch all games except the ones involving the Blackhawks.

Fans in the USA will apparently need ESPN and ABC to watch most playoff games, including the final. Cable-cutters are out of luck. In previous years I had used a VPN with NHL.tv once playoffs started.

Don't understand why this league insists on alienating its many fans who don't have or want cable or satellite television.

How much is ESPN+ center ice package to watch all games? Is it included in the same subscription or its gonna require separate subscription? It can't be just the regular subscription because that's really cheap

Hate that you can no longer watch pregame and post game coverage with ESPN+ for out of market games. I have been watching that for years with NHL.tv. I would rather pay that price vs ESPN+ cheaper price to have that back for my team. Guess pre and post game I will be back to other means.

I have gone with NHL Live this year and not Centre Ice, oh boy. First time using it tonight and the buffering is already pissing me off.

Flames fan living in US. Bought Espn+ subscription. Can someone confirm if all 82 flames games will be shown on Espn+?

also, do we know if you can choose home or away feed like it was possible with NHL Live?

Im curious too as a US person wanting to watch Ottawa games. On Gamecenter I’d get like 80 Ottawa games a year, the current schedule is showing six Ottawa games on ESPN plus. That would be ridiculous in the year 2021.

All but the games that will be on national TV (ABC, ESPN, or TNT)

So far the games I have watched on ESPN+ have all had home and away feeds.

Maybe Canadian internet is crap? Was awesome down here. Where youncould probably not actually be further from the servers than anywhere else in the world!
