Woke up this morning to go sign up for NHL.TV and learned everything is on ESPN+ now, which I already have. This seems like... an extremely good deal?

Just chiming in with my own experience in case anyone else finds it helpful.

I'm a Caps fan living in Philly, and I've used NHL.tv for several years in order to watch non-nationally-televised out-of-market Caps games. (I had to use the regional NBC sports network in order to watch Caps/Flyers games). As other people mentioned, NHL Network games were NOT included in NHL.tv for most of those years, but suddenly became available through NHL.tv the last couple of years. However, now that ESPN+ is essentially the new NHL.tv, it looks like the NHL Network games--including last night's Caps/Devils game) are no longer available again.

I cut cable years ago (and I'm never going back). But, as far as I can tell, even with ESPN+ there's no perfect streaming option that gets me all Caps games (nationally televised, out-of-market, and regional sports network) this year. Again, this is Philly specific, as other cities have different regional sports networks that are available on different streaming platforms (it's all a real headache to figure out).

-I currently have Fubo, which has the Philly regional sports networks and NHL Network (for an extra fee), but doesn't have TNT (which is airing the Caps opener against NYR, as well as plenty of other national games)

-YouTube TV has TNT, but NOT NHL network, AND is about to lose all of their NBC channels, so I won't get the Philly regional sports networks in Philly (so no Caps/Flyers games).

-Hulu has TNT and the Philly regional sports networks, but doesn't have NHL Network.

-I forget what the deal is with Sling, but they're missing stuff too. Probably the Philly RSNs.

I'll probably just go with Hulu. The HuluLive TV + Ad-Free Hulu + Disney + ESPN+ deal is pretty good. I'd just have to figure out *another solution* for the rare Caps game on NHL Network.

Also, in my limited experience, the ESPN+ is kind of cumbersome to use compared to the NHL.tv app, because it takes multiple clicks just to get to the NHL page, and scrolling through games on ESPN+ is a bit of a pain compared to how they were laid out on the NHL.tv app. Only a little annoying, but yeah.

If YouTube TV comes to an agreement with NBC and keeps my RSNs, I'll might switch from Fubo to YTTV (even though I have a Roku TV which doesn't allow the YTTV app--I'd have to go through the regular YT app, which is a pain). However, if YTTV and NBC can't play nice (which seems to be the case), I'll go with Hulu. The HuluLive TV + Ad-Free Hulu + Disney + ESPN+ deal is pretty good. Question….does the ESPN app let you hide scores?

Isn't ESPN+ only $6.99 a month? That doesn't right to be able to get all nhl games for that price. What am I missing?

DirecTv has lowered the price for Center Ice to $60 for the year. Cheaper thasn ESPN+.
And now they're offering DirecTV via stream - so in theory you could forgo Center Ice and sign up for ESPN+.

I just severed my ties with them 3 weeks ago and went with YouTube TV (via Roku on my 2 older HDTVs)...I do miss the NHL Network a little, but it was painfully redundant, and I certainly don't miss paying $160 a month (much of that was in fees).

All in all I'm glad I cut the cord.

Can anyone using the ESPN+ app (I'm using the Roku one) tell me how to personalize the home screen, if that's possible? Like... I only care about hockey. I don't want to have to scroll through a bunch of stuff I'm not interested in just to get to the NHL/hockey content at the bottom of the menus.

I realize that ESPN+ has much more comprehensive sports coverage than NHL.tv--but with NHL.tv, I opened the app and all of that day's games were listed right on the home screen. If ESPN+ has a personalization option that allows me to get the content I want right at the top of the home page, that'd be great. Thanks!

Will the espn app not only have live out of market games, but also past games as NHL.tv does both for current season as well as usually a year or two back? If not, is NHL.tv continuing to exist in some form for that purpose or are we simply losing the a ability to watch past games any time we want?

Maybe it’s just because I’m not used to seeing the price broken down to monthly payments (I usually just save up and get the whole NHL.tv out of the way) but the price seems low to get all of that

Yes. Right after you open the ESPN app, click on the Settings icon, and look for the option to hide the scores.

Yeah I don’t see that on the ESPN app on my iPad.

Also, is there an app for the Apple TV? Or does everything have to be streamed from and iPhone/iPad?

Yeah I don’t see that on the ESPN app on my iPad...
In your post, it looks like you have opened your account details versus the app settings. The Settings icon looks like a gear wheel, and I see it in the upper right area of the photo that you attached.

They have 75 exclusive games (4-8 games per team) that will only air on espn+. Because of that they are banking on more subscribers to sign up to watch their local team for those games than out of town fans that want to watch out of town games.

Im a tech nerd, I know what the setting icon looks like lol. That’s it in the screenshot I posted earlier.

Ummm is this going to include every game for every team that isn’t subject to certain blackout issues, whatever those may be? Jets fan in the Atlanta area.

Every games except those on Main ESPN, TNT and NHL Network.

I am sure things will improve when the regular season begins, but a full slate of pre-season games during the night and only one available on ESPN Player (number of countries, different from ESPN+). No choice of which feed you want to watch either. No pre-game, no intermissions. The image fading in and out with some fake crowd noice that is played non-stop during breaks en intermissions is already extremely irritating.

So far I am really disappointed with the forced change from NHL.tv to ESPN Player.

Pretty frustrated that they smoked the NHL app off the older Apple TV units...And my brand new LG OLED TV does not have the NHL app available, and I can't stream from my iPhone 11 to the TV either.

Same here. Very frustrating. Once I was finally able to get the app via the fire cube I plugged back in, it said the game was blacked out for me... (last night's San Jose/Anaheim game)... and neither is in my blackout zone here in Idaho.

By the way, this is what the NHL says about blackouts, according to this site

Blackout Information

ESPN+ Blackouts (U.S. only)

Games broadcast on local television in your area are subject to blackouts in ESPN+. Games broadcast nationally may be blacked out in ESPN+ as well. For guidance regarding local blackouts in your area, enter the local zip code of the area where you will be streaming ESPN+ in the local blackout detector above to find out which club's live games may be blacked out on ESPN+. Zip code lookup is applicable for U.S. based postal codes only (and thus only applicable for U.S. subscribers to ESPN+).
For international customers of ESPN products, blackout restrictions may apply to games that appear on a non ESPN NHL® partner network in your viewing area based on the IP address from which you are accessing the service. Please check your local listings for broadcasts on these networks.

That "May" in there gives me some hope that maybe NHL Network games will not be blacked out on ESPN+. I can understand TNT though.
