I made a few phone calls today and things are in flux partly because the NHL is in the process of leaving their longtime Midtown Manhattan location for Hudson Yards.

It appears if a game is poached by NHL Network in the US it will not be on ESPN+ and NONE of the Turner games will be available on ESPN+ as well.

Will Turner games be available on HBO MAX? The answer I got was maybe.

Xfinity has still not announced pricing for Center Ice

On Sunday I watched part of the Kraken/Vancouver game on ESPN+ and the quality was fine and the lag time was minimal.

Can't say I'm surprised. I do have this feeling that while in some ways this ESPN deal is good for fans, it's not necessarily good for all fans. Between this news and my other concerns that have yet to be allayed by what we've seen so far (no ability to start an in-progress game from the start, no way to hide the full game time on replays, etc.), I'm left wondering if I might end up paying for Center Ice on top of ESPN+ (which I already had for the Euro football), though with Spectrum the problem is you don't even get all home and away broadcasts, nor do I pay for whole-home DVR.

Also, I'm curious to see if ESPN+ ends up including recaps and/or condensed games as an option when you click on a replay. So far those are nowhere to be found. It was always nice to get the 9-10 minute watch of a game right there on the NHL.tv Roku app if I didn't have time to watch the whole thing.

There's obviously something great for new or newly-enraptured fans to be able to watch so many games on ESPN+, but I don't like that it might mean that for some already hardcore fans, we'll be getting less than what we got before. And to me, paying less doesn't feel worth it in that case, but I don't really have a choice. New deals should mean forward progress, not backwards.

I can't beleive I still can't get pricing from my satellite provider (Shaw Direct, I'm in Canada).
We're a couple of weeks from puck drop - and still last year's pricing.

I too was watching the Kraken game and it was pretty good.

I wonder what the DVR capabilities are going to be for this service. I have seen you can watch the games on demand, but can you start the game in the middle of the game, or make sure you are not spoiled (Since if you hover over a game it will show you the actual game. Is ESPN going to update the app in a week to provide better navigation? I would love to be able to enter the app, go to the dedicated NHL Page (Which should be easy to find) and just go from there. Now everything is incorporated with the app so better navigation would be a plus.

These are the same questions I have as well. There's no ability to "follow" or highlight a specific team to have their games show up immediately, there also doesn't seem to be a way to start a game from the beginning without joining live first. If those two things aren't corrected I'll be pretty annoyed and will begin looking for alternatives.

All of this streaming is getting beyond this old fart. Amazon, Roku, Fubo, Disney, Netflix, Etc., Etc., Etc. There needs to be a customized, ala carte streaming service that allows you to pick what you want from the aforementioned. That probably already exists and I don't know it. LOL

So now it's ESPN instead of NHL TV?

That won't be good if games on NHL Network can't be viewed anywhere else. NHL Network is not on in many areas, especially with the Cutting the Cord generation. Also, Turner is not on Fubo TV for some reason. What is the NHL also going to do about the gameday audio? If I'm in the car and want to listen to a hockey game I can do it on SiriusXM but is that the only location? Why do I feel like this new deal has made it harder to watch games, not easier.

Also there is news about the NBC Networks leaving Youtube TV if a deal isn't reached by Thursday. I'm on Youtube TV and have to leave if that is the case. What is going on and can the left hand know what the right hand is doing so I can actually make decisions on what I want to do (Do I go to Hulu or Fubo, and if I go to Fubo I don't have any of the Turner networks and I can't watch the NHL and my brother can't watch the NBA).

I like that Espn+ is cheaper than center ice or nhl.tv but hockey is sort of lost in the noise with the espn app. The dedicated nhl app was nice and easy to use, albeit buggy. Maybe this will be more reliable

I'm watching the Flyers game on ESPN + and the quality is pretty good. I just hope a lot of this confusion will be answered in the next two weeks, and they update the app with better navigation capabilities.

I thought the picture was a lot better too then I remembered I watched most of the season on Center Ice and got very used to that quality which definitely wasn't as good. Anyway, it looks great in case anybody else was worried about that.

They need to make large UI changes before the season as it's going to be a huge shock to most viewers if this is what they hit the regular season with.

The picture looks better than what I saw when I checked out the replays of games posted from the playoffs (after the deal was announced). That was noticeably worse than the extremely sharp picture I had on NHL.tv through my fairly new Roku. This is more of what I got used to--that really crisp, sharp picture (better than the quality of most games I see on TV, in fact).

Hockey deserves this kind of picture. The sport looks stunningly gorgeous when it's presented with this quality. So hey, at least one of my worries about ESPN+ was quelled!

No NHL.TV in Australia this year, its through Watch ESPN: Online Live Sports, Replays, Highlights.

Details here, scroll down to ESPN App
Where to Stream

Good news is if you have foxtel then its free.

I still have my doubts if it will be a full NHL.TV style service, we always get dudded and end up with something lame like 3 games of the week or something stupid where they hold the rights but give no access.

That's annoying. And poorly advertised. And seems to be utterly opaque about what you get I ditched Foxtel for Kayo a while ago. I'll pay for this ESPN thing if I can get all the Red Wings games.

Hmmm ... A bunch of preseason games are available when I log in to NHL.tv. And it shows regular season games in the schedule ...

But, it looks like they aren't actually going to become avaiable.

However, after hunting around, this looks promising from ESPN.com.au

For the 2021-22 season hockey fans will be able to stream every regular season and postseason NHL game -- more than 1400 games on the ESPN App* -- including the entire Stanley Cup Final, the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs, NHL All-Star Weekend, NHL Winter Classic, NHL Stadium Series matches and more.

Huh ... even better, I have a Fetch subscription I've been meaning to cancel, but haven't. Looks like I can add ESPN there, and get full access.

good find, looks like we'll be ok.

I have foxtel, but the espn login uses the foxtel go credentials but beyond that is completely seperate. It would impact nothing if you had a "friend" log you into the espn app using their login. Its very rare to find someone using the espn logins, most people dont even know about it

are the dedicated channels for centre ice still in the schedule grid ?

worst case you can buy a cheap roku for 50 bucks and stream the nhl tv app on your t.v . I'm new to streaming and I'm giving it a whirl .

I added ESPN to my Fetch, screwed around for about 20 minutes, and finally managed to log in to WatchESPN on my browser and get it to actually stream something. I suspect it will probably be easier via the app on the TV.

Using a Roku Ultra I had the option in the ESPN app to turn off scores of games in progress and was able to verify it was working for the Oilers game last night. Haven't check if it stays true for games that have already been completed.

Pretty frustrated that they smoked the NHL app off the older Apple TV units...And my brand new LG OLED TV does not have the NHL app available, and I can't stream from my iPhone 11 to the TV either.

I hooked up the kids Nvidia Shield box, and that worked good so far.

Hi y'all. Question about ESPN+

Like NHL.tv, can we watch games after they broadcast? I usually don't get done working before puck drop. It was nice with NHL.Tv because I could start the game from the beginning or watch it the next day.

TIA

Yes

So, ESPN Player will have to be the way to go for us in Europe? It’s telling me it’s 12€ a month. I tried to watch the Panthers game on the NHL app, and it told me I had to download ESPN Player.

I'm assuming you're Greek, nhl.com says it's ESPN Player for you: Where to Stream | NHL.com

I personally am currently able to watch my nhl.tv subscription from the UK through my VPN. Make of that what you will.
