Nah he had suitors. He didn't do anything criminal or anything that bad honestly. Just a hardass.

He sat out because he's a petty guy who wanted Toronto to keep paying him after firing him.

A grade A asshole.

Sure he’s a known asshole….but If he was really petty he would have taken another job for $1 a year, and still have Toronto be forced to pay the rest.

Not like any of us would have been rushed to get back to work with a 4 year multi-million guaranteed paycheck coming in either…

40 goals a year?
His career high is 26 and has 53 goals in the NHL. And you saying he’s a HOF type goal scorer LOL. Are you his agent?
His career high is 26 in 46 games, you don’t think he could have put up 14 more goals over 35 more games? It was his 2nd NHL season. Montreals PP gets rolling with him being a big part of it as the shooter and they continue to improve the team around him *If healthy yes I believe he’s almost a lock for around 40 a year for the duration of that contract.

Caufield is 8th in the NHL in goals/60 over the past 3 seasons at 5v5. Ahead of Alex Ovechkin, Jason Robertson, and Connor McDavid.

I don't know that he's a consistent 40 goal scorer necessarily but I also don't see a ton of downside in that contract. Locked in a player from his ages 23-30 seasons and he's already shown to at least be a very good goal scorer. And while you never know what's going to happen with the cap, there is a good chance it rises considerably after next season.

Worst case is he's slightly overpaid on a contract that should be movable. Best case is he does continue to become a great goal scorer and improves defensively (where he has been weak).

I give that contract the twabby Stamp of Approval.

Isn’t ironic how much more the guys who actually deliver get paid vs the ones who just carry the promise of delivering big numbers get?

I do agree though and think his cap hit is fine and he should work out well at that cost for Montreal.

There likely isn’t much real value to be had…..for anyone in charge of trading those two shitbricks.
The value is in rehab, that's just not something on the fringe of Babcock's radar. I can't see a version of this team that suddenly becomes better because they introduced a complete asshole to f*** with their heads, and it's also the last thing I'd want to do for Ovechkin's farewell stint with the franchise.

I’d wager Babcock’s mental manipulation days are over…but who knows?

What, just because of last time? Who are we looking to for learning here? Babcock's own introspection?

Even if he cuts off the worst 10% I doubt he's going to rearrange his whole course of being and everything that got him here. He'll likely do it without even knowing it, emotional abusers often do.
