Doesn't bode well for Toronto to sign the guy who couldn't get Gaudreau to sign and traded Tkachuk away when they have the Matthews/Marner decisions coming up.
“Trust me, I love offense.”
Yeah I thought that article detailing his Flames work didn’t make him sound terrible. That could just be a domino effect thing. Gaudreau clearly wanted out and played it close to the vest for whatever reason. Tkachuk made it clear he didn't want to stay in Calgary long term, and Gaudreau leaving would have underscored that desire. So it's possible, even likely, that Treliving got what he could in a hockey trade to sustain a club that had been playing well. And that trade was pretty savvy, and might serve as a template for future marquee RFA deals.
It's tough to be a GM in a place lots of players want to avoid. Building a competitive team in such a place takes real skill. I haven't followed his career specifically enough to feel one way or the other about it, but nothing huge jumps out at me to suggest he's a bad hire.
FWIW. Going to be tough upgrading their blueline without moving a core forward given a lack of cap space. They could flip Brodie I guess but I buy the intent. As much as there are a lot of looming contract questions I tend to view that as similar as past Caps teams that just ran with it. They're too far in to worry much about it. If they lose them there's at least cap space.

Interesting hire. I wonder what the approach is. Go for it one last time or start planning for the future they have mortgaged already.
Also interesting to see what happens with Zucker. They almost have to re-sign him to stay even as a bubble team but Dubas has a history of overpaying players.
I don't think there is much to even agree on that anymore. They were kept when their contracts were up and each was handed an NMC so they can't be moved. If the article on Hextall's firing is to be believed, the old ownership wanted to move on from the big 3 and rebuild, and the new ownership wanted to keep them around, so I would suspect Dubas had to agree to keep the big guys around.
That’s not really true….I’m sure they could work something out. But why at this point?I don't think there is much to even agree on that anymore. They were kept when their contracts were up and each was handed an NMC so they can't be moved.
Which one of them you think would waive it?That’s not really true….I’m sure they could work something out. But why at this point?
Which one of them you think would waive it?
You can read Malkin's comments on Pittsburgh. He would never waive that NMC unless the staff told him flat out that we don't want you here. Which is never happening with Crosby around.
Letang also was an UFA last summer do there are pretty fresh comments on what he thinks. He calls Crosby and Malkin his brothers and hopes they stay together their entire careers.
Which one do you think could be moved and where? Honestly curious as i've seen nothing to suggest any of them wanting to leave. Even despite Malkin being flushed out for a while.
Same surgery as Backstrom had?
I don't think it is the same but it is kind hard to tell since there are two types of hip resurfacing surgeries: Hip Resurfacing - OrthoInfo - AAOS.Same surgery as Backstrom had?
That's a tough one. 4-6 months is pretty optimistic.
Interesting. Seems like he's been gone forever. Redemption tour?Fridge reporting on 32T that Columbus is gonna hire Babcock after his TML contract expires at the end of the month.
4 year paid vacation…..Interesting. Seems like he's been gone forever. Redemption tour?
Thats impressive he sat out all 4 years the leafs had to pay him. Props4 year paid vacation…..
