Yep, just i said any big trades to Washington were a pipe dream. Not only they need to want to come here, which none of the big fish do, Caps needed to have something good to offer back, which again we don't. Tanked Sammy value? Yeah it doesn't work like that.

And for the love of god stay clear of old fart goalies ska Fleury.

Interested to see what Jarnkrok goes for. To be honest, he may not have been much of an upgrade on CMM though, if he is able to find his scoring touch whatsoever.

Also nice to see a potential 1st round opponent in FLA seemingly get worse by trading an average forward for cap space, to acquire a bad defenseman that will likely see a lot of minutes for them.

I honestly thought they were making cap room for someone like Giroux.

Apparently they still have room, but holy shit did they give up a lot for a defensemen that is at best below average, and on the other end of the spectrum grades out as one of the worst dmen in the league analytically.

Steep prices for both of those players, and I think Florida has already traded their 2022 1st rounder so now they won’t have one until 2024. I assume they made this trade knowing they were either definitely getting Giroux and knew they could do so without giving up a 1st or they knew they’re likely out of the running because it seems strange they’d blow their load on Chiarot if they still have a chance with Giroux.

Why is Florida going all in? They have never won a playoff round. Makes no sense to me.

Go into the playoffs and see what happens. Reassess next year.

Very glad we didn't pay that price for Jankrok. Whoof, expensive cost for a 3rd line utility knife guy.

They're first in their division and 2nd in the President's Trophy race. Seems like a really good time to make an investment to win some playoff rounds.

(Also Florida went to the Cup final in 1996, but maybe you're not referring to franchise history)

What is this train of thought? Yeah let's not try to win a cup while we are in excellent position to do it. In Washington's position it makes much more sense, because they have likely a one good push left before they will have to regroup. Florida again is an excellent team with young core in their absolute prime, they should be trying to win every single year for a good period now, no waiting anymore.

If Fletcher has settled on Owen Tippett as the main piece in a return for Giroux then BMac should absolutely be trying to pry Konecny or Sanheim out of there. Would also explain why Florida was ok trading their 1st for Chiarot. Bad value for Philly if it’s Tippett + a 2nd or something like that.

Well Giroux has the cards in his hand in the end. If he has settled on Florida there is not much more they can do about it. And it's better than nothing. But it's all rumours so who knows.

Yet more proof that cap space is by far the most valuable commodity in the NHL right now. Losing hope that the average main boards poster is going to learn this one day.

I'm skeptical too. Even if they can't come to an agreement before the TDL I find it difficult to believe that Nashville wouldn't hold onto Forsberg for this year's playoff run and then open up the bank this offseason. They have plenty of cap space to retool, and a core around Josi, Forsberg, and Saros is plenty competitive next year provided they make a few shrewd moves and maybe take a swing at a center.

I'd be kind of surprised if Philadelphia got a big haul given Giroux's NMC, but all it takes is two teams that want Giroux and that he'd be comfortable going to in order to create a bidding war.
