At least we get that shit out of the way early today with a 1 p.m. kickoff. I hope they fight enough to protect the younglings.
We start the day with Defect II, AKA
@Asnito, on the clock,
@Young Sandwich on deck,
@ajgoal on the lido deck (someone remind me that I have his pick), and GKJ on the lido afterdeck.
I watched quite a good one from China last night, called "Let the Bullets Fly" (2010). It was described in the review someone left as "A Chinese 'Miller's Crossing.'" As you know, that is my co-favorite movie of all time, so I was intrigued. It ended up not being exactly that, but I can see exactly why someone would raise the comparison. It is set during the Warlords period in the 1920s in the south of China. There is this bandit and his gang who rob a train and take two hostages, one of whom is a con man heading to this town as an imposter for the governor the town is expecting to arrive. The bandit decides to do that instead, but spares the con man and makes him his counselor. He also beds the con man's wife. He immediately gets into conflict with the gangster running the town, played by Chow Yun Fat. It's not as action-packed as I would have liked, but it is very funny. It is kind of like a cross between "Miller's Crossing" and "Kung-Fu Hustle," though nowhere near as good as either. Having said that, Jiang Wen - who both directed and stars as the bandit - is definitely very talented. I'm going to look into his other films at some point.
Now I'm watching a program about nature in China, because there is f*** all else on. There are two snow leopards, a male and a female, who start off growling at each other before making sweet love doggy style, then nuzzle each other's faces. It's kind of the opposite thing I am used to from watching Chinese dating shows.
