I had someone on the main boards arguing that I hadn't done enough "research" on the team when I made the claim that our cupboards are bare. He brought up Woo as one of his examples of how stocked we really are. We really are hooped prospect-wise.

We're having the usual voices chime in about trading picks (Miller deal, Dickinson deal, OEL deal, etc etc etc.) in the same way:

"most picks bust"
"Prospects can't help the team for 3-4 years"

The problem with this is that if you think this way 3-4 years ago....you wont have anyone coming up ready to push for the team today.

Same people love to crow on about how much our drafting has improved, but they just simply seldom use the draft picks for some reason. And it's strange how few players have made an impact. We're at well under 1 legit NHL player per draft.

Odds are it wont. That much we know but that's not really a fair criticism

Whoever was picked in the 2nd round was going to immediately be our #3 prospect in terms of asset value after Podkolzin/Rathbone. Just brutal.

Assuming Rathbone and Podkolzin graduate our prospect pool mid-season will be the worst in the NHL (easily) and the worst in the history of the franchise.

the zero depth is a horrible take. i agree it could be better, but its not as bad as people push. you have to consider the amount of prospects they have graduated/traded

No, our depth is horrible. We’ll have three serious prospects in Abby next season, Gadjovich, Woo, and DiPietro. That’s it.
That’s probably bottom 3 in the league and brutal for a team that finishes bottom 10 basically every year.

I mean these are the same posters that wanted Gillis fired for having a poor prospect pool when the team won back-to-back president's trophies. They are somehow okay with trading all of our picks and having no prospect pool when we just finished last in the division.
