Assuming Rathbone and Podkolzin graduate our prospect pool mid-season will be the worst in the NHL (easily) and the worst in the history of the franchise.

It's also insane how few D-men the org has drafted and developed over the 8 years too. Just absolutely nothing, and get stuck chasing Myers/OEL types to fill the gaps because they simply haven't been able to identify D to save their ****ing lives.

Didn’t they call them ‘two free 2nd rounders’ or something?

That's right, like it was getting 2 2nd round picks from 2-3 drafts ago. There's a reason these guys made it to NCAA UFA and were undrafted. Adding 24 year olds who can't jump right into NHL is a fools game.

I mean these are the same posters that wanted Gillis fired for having a poor prospect pool when the team won back-to-back president's trophies. They are somehow okay with trading all of our picks and having no prospect pool when we just finished last in the division.

There is absolutely no consistency. The casual fan base is so easy to get lapping up the absolute most golden retriever brain interpretations of every move.

The Canucks *already* have just one pick in the top-100 in the 2022 draft. And the odds of Benning adding any is basically zero.

But he's trying!

Just like last draft.

And the draft before.

Trying to recoup draft picks when they are at their most valuable point, every single year, and failing.

The whole point is that you need to maintain depth throughout your system to create waves of prospects.

We have, in 8 years, we have graduated 5 roster players of note from our draft picks. I'm sorry that's not good enough for how bad this team has been and how high our selections have been. It all started by duffing two top-6 picks in the first 3 years.

im agreeing there should be more. but im saying its not as bad as people push, zero depth is a gross exaggeration

currently, if you are saying within 8 years that includes Horvat, Demko, Pettersson, Boeser, Hoglander, Hughes (thats 6, if you are including this draft and not counting horvat its kinda ridiculous because you are then ignoring rathbone, podz who will be on the roster and would push it to 8) + the 2 duffs. a 3rd liner and bottom pairing d

imo the problem isnt so much the lack of picks or the recent trading of picks. it was the stupid try for the sedins trades, and the fact the are trading their prospects too early/not sticking to them. tryamkin (bottom pair). forsling (2nd pairing ld), madden, mccann, gaudette (forcing c when hes a winger)

even is we manage to get a pick through a Schmidt/Holtby trade or something else, Jimbo will trade it away. Any surplus picks just burn a hole in his pocket.

You should see the Canes. They are still adding picks somehow just dropping a few spots here or there.

No, our depth is horrible. We’ll have three serious prospects in Abby next season, Gadjovich, Woo, and DiPietro. That’s it.
That’s probably bottom 3 in the league and brutal for a team that finishes bottom 10 basically every year.
Youre either counting Rathbone, Podz as roster players which means they have graduated 8 solid players in the last 5? years. which many teams have not been able to do, and would hurt your depth.. or you are not considering them as prospects as they are still consider due to gp.
Also lockwood has a higher nhl chance than Gadj, but not the higher ceiling

We’ll have to trade more picks to get rid of Holtby.

...and then watch Benning sign another backup for 3mil.

Benning is like the guy who pays someone to get rid of old pop cans and beer bottles in his garage, freeing up space and clutter... only to overpay for a used dresser with busted shelves and a soiled mattress.

Compulsive, naive and dumb.

I think Rathbone showed enough last year to be given a roster spot and Podkolzin should be NHL ready as a top 10 pick with two full seasons of pro experience.

I don’t consider Lockwood a legit NHL prospect. I think he tops out as a middle six AHLLer.

Only the first three were from this administration, and two of them were allowed to walk for absolutely nothing and put up fantastic seasons this year for 6.3MM combined.
you were implying it was a bad strategy or just being sarcastic?

Gourde Johnson Panarin Krug Marchessault Whitecloud Pionk B.Tanev Ruuta Giordano Bozak Goodrow Dillon A.Greene Iafallo Kampny Vatrano were all undrafted as well as the aforementioned Canuck one's
