No, that's not a sound business decision and they won't do it. The smart and least emotion-based decision for Blake is to draft with our 3 picks and restock our system and not flip out and make a poor business decision and become the laughing stock of the NHL.

Drafting a franchise player is a great business decision.

Trading up is asinine. We will get a great player at 5 and another good (great hopfully) player/players with whatever we would have to trade with our 1st to move up a spot or two. Just draft BPA for all our picks and we will be fine.

I say trade the 5th and collect more picks down the line. Quantity. After the sure shots at the top, it's a crap shoot.

First time I’ve paid this much attention. They should show it regardless, if there is transparency no one can complain.

Teams win and lose on the ice all the time, in full view of everyone, and people still say the league rigs the results. If they didn't give Arizona the 1st pick in 2016, then the league isn't going to rig the draft for anyone. Unless they didn't put Matthews in Arizona on purpose, to throw people off the scent...

There are no guarantees of a franchise player regardless. You stay the course and build from within and in order to do that, you maximize your picks.

Exactly, that's the way you build a winner. You draft BPA and not based on need.

It's not going to happen. They aren't going to trade up. NJ and NYR aren't going to trade down regardless. They need the players as well.
