Im not that high on em but they definitely have the potentialRight now? Not many. In 2 to 3 years, all of them.

Fair enoughIm not that high on em but they definitely have the potential
I'll give you the Pens, but Hawks had Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and Hjalmarsson which is a very good d-core. Tampa had Serga, McDonagh, Cernak, prime-Schenn and Bogosian, which is a very strong defense group.Look at the Blackhawks. Seabrook and Campbell, right? Really good solid defensemen that scored points but nothing crazy, won a few cups. Penguins? What, Letang and a supporting cast? The only other team to win multiple cups recently is Tampa, right? So, Hedman and a supporting cast.
Right, but how many are or were considered "elite" players and going to the HHoF especially as an "offensive defenseman"?I'll give you the Pens, but Hawks had Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and Hjalmarsson which is a very good d-core. That's basically what I'm saying, I'm just not as focused on the difference between 6'1" and 5'11". Yes, you need a mix of size, and everyone knows what I think of Blankenburg, but a strong on his skates guy that can win board battles isn’t a non-NHL player or bottom pairing guy just because he's 6'0".It’s not so much about needing all offensive guys, it’s that in building a defensive corps if you have multiple guys 6’1” or bigger who can battle and skate and transition, you can build a first rate defense without a bunch of stars. It makes you tough to play against. That is way most of top teams are built.
Skej is actually pretty ideal 2nd pairing guy, except that our system is weird and he has struggled getting comfortable. Our rhd though are basically a disaster, either too small, too slow, or clueless. He wasn’t a star, but giving away fabbro was insanely stupid.
On tinder 6'0 and above is the standard. Maybe we need to enforce that on our hockey teamThat's basically what I'm saying, I'm just not as focused on the difference between 6'1" and 5'11". This is worth a listen. I don't think either of these folks read HF. Plenty of people had questions about the off-season moves.
And finally they are coming to the conclusion that the roster doesn't match the coaching style. Who could've guessed.
The funny part of it is we had a very successful 4th line of Smith, McCarron and Sherwood in the playoffs. All they had to do was not sign Janko but sign Sherwood. And they couldn't even get that right. Sherwood is what stirred the drink on that line and it isn't a surprise he has a great season in Vancouver.I think every team needs a couple of McCarrons. Solid 4th line guys, physical, playoff ready depth. The problem is we have like 6 of em, signed them to multi year contracts, and refuse to scratch any of them to let our young guys get minutes
My old coach used to say that a dump and chase without a chase is just a turd.Dump and chase when we are only capable of the first half is a dumb idea.
We've certainly dumped on the ice many times this season. My old coach used to say that a dump and chase without a chase is just a turd.
It's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things but I feel like how we dealt with Hinistroza is just emblematic of how braindead our team is. It should have been obvious to anyone that he wasn't doing anything for us in the NHL and we should send him back down before he needed to clear waivers again. Instead we keep him in the NHL just long enough that he has to clear again and sure enough he gets claimed. So now our farm team is worse all so we could provide no benefit to our floundering NHL team.Que up the Hinostroza tribute video.
While I was never thrilled with the contract Trotz handed Saros, I convinced myself that signing those old dudes for all that term and money would propel this team into fighting for the playoffs. It didn't take long for me to be shown how wrong I was.So I went back in time and dug this port up from the free agent thread this summer
"Yeah I mean look I was team tear it down and rebuild through the draft. And while I still think that is the right direction for this team to win a cup and have a long window to do it, clearly Trotz and Brunnette disagree with my assessment and think this team can win.
At the end of the day, Preds are my #1 team and I'm always going to stand by them, but what I couldn't condone is the mushy middle. Either go in or get out. Today they went in.
The cup window is now 3-4 years. Let's hope they do it. I certainly do.
I still have concerns about the blueline, I don't think we are strong enough on the right side and not sure I LOVE the Carrier deal (would've preferred Adam Boqvist or Jani Hakanpaa) but it's not the worst.
What I would like to see now is Tomasino/Glass packaged for a d man or to clear cap space to bring in one more d man.
I still think there is a chance Fabbro is traded as well.
But overall how could you not be excited? How could you not hope this gamble pays off? Trotz did a masterful job today in actually opening a cup window for the Preds in the next three years.
That window only gets bigger next year with Joey's contract coming off the books and Nyquist, Fabbro and Glass all coming off the books. That lets you really go big game hunting for a forward or D."
Oh you sweet, dumb. Dumb idiot. They went all in all right. All in the toilet. This team ain't winning a cup in 3-4 years. Maybe not even in 10.
Dump and chase when we are only capable of the first half is a dumb idea.
Yep...right now they're all dump and no chase. My old coach used to say that a dump and chase without a chase is just a turd.
