Can't ever fault Tort teams for not trying.

On the topic of tough coaching, I enjoyed Zadorov's commentary on this.

He really is the true leader on that team. And from his comments criticizing his home country (Russia) and it's invasion of Ukraine (basically ostracized himself from ever going back or he'll likely be in prison or dead) to now this and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

Would enjoy him back on the hawks

?
He isn't even playing. Makes no sense. I get their is probably a rule, but unless the guy is actively betting against his team and he is on the ice potentially changing the results of the game, then I don't get it.
Probably happened last season.

That would make more sense, and I'm sure it will be a big suspension if it was for or against his own team.
Just released. 41 games.

How stupid are these guys to bet on their own sport? Did nobody learn anything from Pete Rose?

Friedmans blog states that it may not have even been that he bet on the NHL.

"Exactly what Pinto did is unknown at this time. But there are situations where leagues have punished players who did not bet on their sport. One example: In June, Tennessee Titans lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended six games for placing a legal bet at the team’s facility, which is not allowed under NFL rules. "

I don't think Pinto would get 41 games if he was setting a Draft Kings NFL daily lineup from team facilities.

Yeah again, it's not that hard. Don't gamble at work.

I wouldn't think so either (but it is the NHL), you would think they would state why if they came out with a 41 game suspension instead of leaving everyone to speculate.

Yeah again, it's really easy. Don't gamble at work.
Maybe work shouldn't be sponsored by multiple gambling companies then.

For the fans, sports gambling drives interest. It makes sense the way they're handling it.

Honestly Baseball is archaic on this and the other sports have it right. People should be allowed to f*** up but not repeatedly. And I have no issue with the penalties being harsh.

Personally, I despise gambling but I don't think it should be outlawed. It's better now than when everything was in the Cayman Islands and shit.

He should be allowed to bet on anything that he is not participating in. I get not being allowed to bet on NHL games only for the simple fact that he may have insider information. Zero reason anyone should ever be suspended for gambling on any other sport they wish to.

I'm guessing he got 41 games because he bet on NHL games. If he bet on his own team, he may have got multiple years or lifetime ban. But if he was suspended 41 games for betting at the team facilities, thats garbage.

Completely agreed, but the gambling laws are more strict in Canada than they are in the US.

Critically, the league did not accuse of Pinto of wagering on NHL games, as a memo sent in March 2022 reminded all league and club personnel — including players — that wagering on any NHL game, even where legal, is “absolutely prohibited,” and will “constitute conduct that is dishonourable, prejudicial to, or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey” under the NHL’s constitution.

41 games is too harsh if just for betting on non-NHL games at work.

Not saying he shouldn't get suspended for violating league rules, but this is way too much if he wasn't betting on hockey.

That's some bullshit.

The NFL has distinctions for this, leave it to them to know that there are different severities of breaking league gambling rules.
