A lot of people were dumping on him when he was trying to get traded out of hockey hell - saying that if he can't produce with Tkachuk then he can't produce with anybody...he was a product of Kane...etc

He's 25 with two forty goal seasons and was on pace for fifty the Covid year with 32 goals in 52 games. That doesn't happen on accident.
I guess no one wants to think about how potent a Bedard/Cat combo could have been in Chicago for years to come. I was shocked when he was dealt. Cat should have been coveted by the Blackhawks org.

That scenario doesnt exist. They wouldnt of been a bottom 3 team if they kept Cat. That was always a part of it.

I know you don't like tanking or hated the talk of it.. but you should at least understand the factors.

It seems that hindsight is brought into every conversation about Bedard.

With or without Cat the Hawks were a terrible team that was going to finish near the bottom of the league. The point is however that the Cat should have been kept. 40+ goal scorers in their early 20's just don't come around every day. To somehow think the trading of Cat was the reason we got Bedard is dam convenient if you ask me.

There's nothing hindsight. This was what many fans were calling for and knew clearly was the plan day 1. It was obvious from even earlier than Cats trade but Hagel's trade.

Getting Bedard or even Fantelli/Carlsson/Michkov was the goal... the best bet they could of got keeping Cat was Michkov since teams were dumb and passed on him. That's just accepting the reality of outcomes.

you praise Richardson getting stuff out of the team, if he had Cat or dach and Hagel plus that. This was a team no worse than Pholly last year. Maybe not even getting Michkov and having no real steps forward.

The draft was loaded with good talent. We were going to get a good one with or without Cat (Hagel seemed expendable as his value was as high as it was going to get). I said at the time that Dach and Cat were the only untouchables at that time but it's water under the bridge.

The NHL backtracked on its pride tape ban the literal second they got any pushback.

So... way to go, NHL. You somehow found a way to anger sensible people by banning such an innocuous thing in the first place and then also angered folks that I don't want to associate with upset at the ban being revoked.

Hope the brain trust that runs the NHL doesn't pat themselves on the backs too hard here.

The negative PR they would get from enforcing it was going to be larger than the negative PR they got from implementing it in the first place. NHL is dumb.

It was brain dead to institute a ban that's illegal under the rules and for a group trying to bury it's head in the sand making a policy that you never had any intention of enforcing.

Mathews scores again on a nice give-and-go with Marner on the PP.

He played injured much of last season - he could get 70 goals now that he is healthy.

Meanwhile Joseph Woll putting on a clinic in Leafs net. Of course it helps that Caps had a goal called back on a goalie interference challenge - brutal decision by the guys upstairs.
