Imagine suspending a player 41 games for gambling, while giving guys 4-5 games for completely despicable hits that aren't hockey plays, that can ruin someone's life. Bertuzzi got 20 games for almost killing a guy. Just an amazing league all around.
While constantly advertising for "Betthisandthat.com". It's like the NFL back when they did all the "Jacked Up" and biggest hits of the week hype videos and selling compilations of giant hits, but still saying they cared about player safety.

Ottawa possibly being in trouble for the Dadonov situation, opening up the floodgates for "DAE THINK THE HAWKS SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ALLOWED BEDARD?" discussions again.

Gonna be lit when Pinto comes back and wears this on his helmet

He's not a child. I couldn't smoke weed and operate a four million dollar crane. Pinto gets to play hockey for two commas and not gamble on sports. That's really f***ing easy.
Simple as that. It goes against the integrity of being a professional athlete. Pinto was blessed with the natural abilities and physique to be a pro and make millions. Don't f***ing gamble. It's a rule. No if's and's or but's.

HOWEVER, can't ignore the slight hypocrisy here of the league sending wave after wave of gambling ads in our faces at every moment. It doesn't justify Pinto's actions and they're two separate things entirely, but it does reinforce my feeling that the NHL (and all sports) shouldn't be embracing gambling as much as they do. These apps can be really dangerous to anyone being even a little irresponsible.

I've thought the suspensions for these hits should be way more significant for years now. We know too much about concussions to not drastically discourage blatantly dirty/irresponsible hits. I imagine it's the NHLPA trying to stymie long suspensions and keep more money in player's (and therefore the PA's) pockets.

The rule says don't gamble on the NHL, and then they say he didn't gamble on the NHL. It's a strange situation.

?
He isn't even playing. Makes no sense. I get their is probably a rule, but unless the guy is actively betting against his team and he is on the ice potentially changing the results of the game, then I don't get it.
The NHL and the sports betting companies have an agreement, where the companies monitor themselves to find NHL players who are betting.

How does that work if you say they can bet, but not on their own teams? Who monitors, and how? Suddenly you've got 50% (or more) of NHL players betting, with no way to monitor what they're betting on. It completely opens the door for them to bet, and potentially fix, games they're playing in.

Maybe work shouldn't be sponsored by multiple gambling companies then.
Advertisers target fans, not players.

I wrote that before I read the rest of the thread, but I maintain the more you open the door to players gambling, the harder it gets to know if they're gambling on hockey, or specifically their own team.

Playing in the NHL is a privilege. Imo, it wouldn't be wrong for the league to prohibit sports gambling.

Edit; to clarify my thoughts.

Then tell them they can't gamble at all, but that's not what they are doing. They are saying you can gamble, but not on the NHL. But suspended this guy, and said he didn't gamble on the NHL. Doesn't make sense.

This isn't out of nowhere. Pinto knows he can't gamble on pro sports. He's an idiot for doing it.

They said he didn't gamble on "NHL games." Doesn't mean he wasn't involved in nhl bets like props.

But maybe they'll giving him the leeway because he didn't bet but had a proxy.

If he was merely betting on other sports and rules everywhere are as clear that it is ok, you think the PA would be defending and fighting it. They are not, they are settling on this.

Philly is really good at limiting shots.

Through a period against Minnesota, they only allowed 4. They held Vegas to 12 after 2 periods the other night.

Edit: They're now winning 3-0 with Minny having 1 shot in the first 8 mins of the 2nd period, and 5 total through 32 minutes of the game.

It seems to me that a 41-game suspension is harsh and hypocritical unless he bet on his own team. "Sportbooks" as they like to call it to sound less than straight up gambling.... are everywhere. We see the advertising in virtually every NHL game.

IMO, penalties to players for betting on other sports is rather hypocritical. Maybe even grounds for legal litigation for the player unless it is written into his contract to not engage in such.

So many rookies around the league being put into positions to succeed.

Bedard gets 4th liners to play with. It’s making me sad.

I think KD genuinely believed he was getting a 60 point player out of Hall.

The right play would have been to have doubled Toronto's bid for Domi. He'd be a decent linemate for Bedard.

7 games in and I see Mathews is still killing penalties for Leafs. Seems I'm not the only one who sees how good he is without the puck.
They're pretty limited who they can throw out there. Their forwards are filled with a bunch of guys who can't play D. Are they going to put Reaves out there? Domi, Bertuzzi, Nylander, Tavares, Rookies,? lol I would hope he is better defensively than those bums.
